    The LG Cinebeam 4k Projector is LG’s brightest projector yet, able to display a 150-inch picture at 2,500 lumens, while its HD projectors top out at 2,000 lumens. To take advantage of this extra brightness, the HU80KA also supports high dynamic range via HDR10, though unfortunately, Dolby Vision doesn’t appear to be supported. Two built-in 7-watt speakers provide enough audio power in case you’re bringing the projector with you, but you can easily connect it to an external speaker system or sound bar using the optical output, HDMI, or wirelessly via Bluetooth.

     

    The LG Cinebeam 4k Projector is a versatile and beautifully glorious black box. Spunky one-two 7 W speakers that you can choose to hook up to external speakers and sound bars via optical or Bluetooth. Size and weight, this compact package comes in at about 14 pounds, but delivers far above its competition with a stunningly sharp laser engine that projects up to 2,500 lumens, allowing crisp viewing even in bright conditions. Coupled with LG’s innovative Trumotion Technology, the compact box paints an amazing 150″ screen (74″ by 132″) on your wall from 14.1 feet. Do the math, and a screen 70″ or greater can be projected directly on the ceiling. Makes it Nice for viewing in bead but also just adding a nice Star light canopy or thunderstorm right above your bed.

    LG Cinebeam 4k Projector 77 Inch OLED

    Even a mammoth 77-inch OLED is dwarfed by a 150-inch picture, and that’s exactly what the new LG Cinebeam 4k Projector UHD projector brings to the table. Even better, the CineBeam is available now for a price that is close to what you’d expect to pay for a 75-inch 4K TV — not bad for what promises to be one of the best home theater projectors around.

    Not only can the LG Cinebeam 4k Projector deliver a huge picture, but it does so in a compact, portable form that doesn’t require you to find a table or stand for setting it at the exact right height. LG Says, as the projector’s mirrorless I-shaped engine allows the projector to display without problems whether it’s mounted on the wall, hung from the ceiling, or placed on the floor.

     

    The Final Thought

    Will the projector outclass OLED in terms of black levels? Probably not – especially without the aid of more advanced HDR formats like Dolby Vision or HDR10+. But, that said, its portability and price may help LG’s latest beamer beat out the competition in its design class.

If you’re interested in having a massive, gorgeous 4K display but don’t want to worry about a TV, what are you supposed to do? Well, you could check out an awesome 4K projector!

    We’ve got three here, chosen for their various strengths, to help give you an idea of what to look for. 

    Epson 5040UB 

    While this projector is technically a 1080p projector, it uses some interesting optical shift technology. That optical shift makes it give the appearance of a 4K image without actually being 4K. This one is on the list for its price point, however, as it offers a great image quality for its cost. If you’re just looking to dip your toe into projecting, this $2,300 projector is a good place to start. It sports a great range of colors and looks vibrant. It’s only big drawback is that it only has an HDMI 2.0 input, meaning it’s not very future-proof for upcoming 4K releases.

     

    Sony VPL-VW285ES 

    If you want to see every single pixel of your 4K image, this Sony projector is for you. If you have true 4K you want to watch on a massive scale and have it look great, this projector is perfect. It is a little expensive, though, coming in at $5,000, but it’s well worth it. If you’ve ever wanted to have movie-theater quality images in your house, this is how you do it. Now all you need is a big tub of popcorn and a comically large soda to drink! The only downside to this one, aside from steep price, is the colors. The color range isn’t as good as the other projectors on this list, and our pick for favorite blows it out of the water in terms of black levels.  

    Our Favorite 4K Projector: JVC DLA-X590R 

    Much like the Epson we mentioned earlier, the JVC is technically a 1080p projector. However, it uses optical shift technology to scale the images it sends up to 4K. Its biggest strengths are its strong colors and intense contrast. This 4k projector will wow you with its deep black values and vibrant colors. While it isn’t quite as crisp or sharp as the Sony, it’s much more affordable and offers better color values. Those features alone make it our favorite, as it does an incredible job for the price. You can usually snag this projector on Amazon for around $3,000. You won’t be dissapointed: this little guy punches way above his weight class!

    BenQ PD3200U 32″ 4K Designer Monitor

    This monitor from BenQ has a very interesting feature: dual upstream USB ports, allowing for two computers to be hooked into one monitor and controlled from the same keyboard and mouse. For those who want a 4K picture experience with excellent color and crispness and the convenience of cooirdinating a dual-computer set-up, this BenQ monitor is a great choice. This one also has the added benefit of not requiring scaling, meaning that most third-party apps won’t give you any trouble, and its tremendous 32″ size makes for a gorgeous viewing experience! The only downside to this one is the price: it goes for a fairly steep $800.

    Dell P2715Q

    As far as older model monitors go, this Dell is a great choice for 4K viewing. Thanks to Dell’s awesome three-year warranty, you don’t need to worry about dead pixels ruining your viewing experience, and this monitor has a fantastic viewing experience at that. Excellent color quality pairs with its DisplayPort input’s 60 Hz 4K picture to make for a fantastic picture quality. This monitor has multiple USB 3 ports and a very adjustable, user-friendly stand for ergonomic viewing angles. For a reasonable $430, this Dell is a great choice. The only downsides are its relative age and large bezels, which somewhat cut into the otherwise stellar picture.

    Dell P2415Q

    For those who want a great-looking 4K image but have less desk space to dedicate to a monitor, this 24″ Dell is a great choice. This monitor is essentially just a smaller P2715Q, with comparable colors and black values, and all the same bells and whistles as its larger sibling. It also sports a USB 3 hub and is under the same excellent 3-year warranty and has a very adjustable stand. This one runs around $350, making it a significantly lower price point than the P2715Q. Much like its sibling, however, this monitor has large, unsightly bezels that cut into the image, but this is a small gripe. The P2415Q is certainly the greatest 24″ 4K monitor on the market, and if you’re looking for a smaller 4K experience, this is right for you!

    LG 27UD68P-B

    Our favorite 4K monitor, this LG impresses at every level. For $400 this is a fantastic value, sporting user-friendly menus and amazing picture. The color accuracy and black values of this display are some of the best on the market, and there is no better monitor for the price. LG has always been known for quality displays, and this is no exception to that reputation. This monitor also supports the new FreeSync technology, an adaptive scaling technique that pairs with compatible AMD graphics cards to minimize graphical tearing.      LG Signature OLED TV W8

    You may have heard of these “Wallpaper” displays. They really have to be seen to be believed: they are amazingly thin. Truthfully, the guts of these TVs are held in the included soundbar. The display itself is just that, a display; the tech powering it is off-site, so to speak, in the soundbar. There’s also no bones about it, these displays are seriously expensive.

    However, if money is no object, it’s hard to deny how amazing this screen looks. Depending on the screen you choose, it runs between $7,000 and $15,000, but that price gets you a truly futuristic piece of technology. It’s hard to overstate how good these OLED screens look. It also supports every type of HDR, meaning it’s fully future proofed. For the very best, at a very high price, this is the one you want.

    SONY A8F BRAVIA OLED TV

    Sony’s OLED entry is a fantastic TV for the price. Retailing for around $3,000, it’ll certainly set you back, but it’s an impressive piece of technology. For one thing, it has that beautiful OLED display, and it sports Sony’s great processors to make everything look smooth and seamless.

    The other interesting wrinkle with this TV is the Acoustic Surface that Sony managed to fit in this panel. Acoustic Surface makes the screen itself the speaker, which is mind-blowing. The sound quality is surprisingly good, and the panel is very thin since it has no traditional speakers. It’s hard to describe, but it feels futuristic and truly awesome.

    Our Favorite of 2018’s OLED TVs: LG C8-SERIES 4K OLED TV

    LG knows what it’s doing when it comes to OLED. It’s hard to overstate how good this screen’s picture quality is. Images on this screen almost look more real than real life, which is almost visually confusing. 77-inch models exist but cost around $9,000 and are almost too big to be practical. 65-inch panels run for $3,500, and 55-inch screens are a more reasonable $2,500.

    For that price, you get some of the best bang for your buck when it comes to home TV displays. While there are other, more fancy options, this LG line is a strictly good-looking display with no frills, and the cost reflects that. If you’re looking for the best picture at the best price, this is what you want.

    Xbox One X – Around $500

    Watching movies in 4K is a phenomenal experience – but so is gaming! If you are interested at all in the modern era of video games, then you should consider Microsoft’s Xbox One X to pull double duty as your 4K player and gaming machine.

    The interface is slightly awkward and you’ll need to purchase a universal remote if you don’t want to power own a controller every time you want to start a movie, but we think that the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to versatility and power.

    If the Xbox One X is out of your price range, consider the Xbox One S. You’ll get similar 4K UHD capability at a much cheaper price. The visuals on some games will be less impressive than the Xbox One X, but that’s why the X costs twice as much.

    Sony UBP-X800 – Around $250

    The Sony UBP-X800 should be your top choice for a more media-focused experience. It supports almost everything you could throw at it. Of course, it supports 4K UHD Blu-rays, but you can also upscale standard Blu-rays, 3D Blu-rays and DVDs at superior quality. HDR and Bluetooth audio support round out the features.

    The machine comes ready to stream and supports most of the major services and has a customizable menu. It’s a sturdy feeling machine with a metal chassis that gives off a premium vibe. If you’re not interested in gaming, this should be your go-to player.

    Samsung UBD-M8500 – Less than $200

    The Samsung UBD-M8500 is a solid entry-level and budget-friendly 4K player that will handle your UHD content with crisp and beautiful clarity. Compared to the Sony, however, the upscaling of DVDs and 1080p Blu-rays are a bit lackluster. HDR is supported but note that 3D Blu-ray discs are not.

    You can also use this unit to stream your content from the major providers. The menu system on this model takes advantage of 4K screens and looks better than Sony’s menus. The Samsung SmartHub UI gives users quick access to key menu features and apps without having to go back to a home screen.

    Blackmagic Design Releases 4K Pocket Cinema Camera

    The folks over at Blackmagic Design have unveiled their newest version of the Pocket Cinema Camera. The new model, first seen at NAB 2018, supports 4K HDR RAW video.

    Perhaps most importantly, the retail cost of $1,295 makes this camera the least expensive way to get started shooting 4K HDR.

    Pocket Cinema Camera 4K

    Following on the heels of the popular Pocket Cinema Camera, the 4K version supports 4K HDR RAW at 4,096 x 2,160 resolution and 60 fps in 12-bit RAW or 10-bit ProRes. The redesigned body is much more modern than the original Pocket Cinema, and since it’s built with carbon-fiber, it is much lighter.

    Before you worry about dropping it, Blackmagic countered the new, lighter weight with a bigger grip. It also has larger dials and buttons for recording, ISO, shutter, aperture, white balance and other standard camera features. This is a departure from the previous version, where the rear display controlled most of the settings.

    Full-Size Sensor

    The old Pocket Cinema featured a Micro Four Thirds mount but had a smaller than full-size sensor. The 4K version has a full-sized Micro Four Thirds sensor with native DCI 4K resolution and 13 stops of dynamic range.

    Storage Options Aplenty

    The Pocket Cinema 4K can record ProRes or RAW to standard SD, UHS-II or CFast 2.0 cards. You can also record 4K directly to a media drive by using the USB-C expansion port. This is a great feature for those who dread transferring files… All you need to do is plug the external drive into your computer and you are ready to edit!

    Brighter Touchscreen

    Another bump up from the previous model is the brighter 5-inch touchscreen. The original Pocket Cinema caught a lot of flak for being so dim. With the screen you can frame shots, check focus or use the menu. There are also histograms, focus and peaking indicators and 3D LUTs that can be viewed on the screen.

    DaVinci Resolve 15

    Also launching with the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is a new version of DaVinci Resolve. This “massive update” now includes the Fusion compositing VFX package to allow even more work to be done in the same program.

    DaVinci Resolve 15 includes support for Apple Metal and CUDA and can recognize multiple GPUs.

    • Sub-par viewing angles
    • High cost for a Television that does live up to the cost in comparison
    • “Game Mode” displays very poor gradients

    The Conclusion

    This is very well built and sturdy television. The thin metal bezzle is a welcomed improvement from the all plastic ones in Samsung’s prior LED TVs. The 65” model is large , but fairly lightweight and easy to wall mount. The 4K resolution is very impressive and the darks are very dark. It’s a pleasure to watch TV on this Samsung, but the cost is high and there are other cheaper and still high quality options out there.

    4K Resolution

    The incredible detail of the 4K resolution is amazing. With vibrant colors and deep blacks, it looks like the images were painted on the screen. With the 120 frame rate, it’s just simply a joy to watch a 4K movie such as Wonder Woman, on it. In terms of the TV’s remote, the Samsung remote is really nice and the voice control is a great addition. It’s a simple remote that liken to the Amazon FireTV voice remote. The toggle channel/volume buttons take some getting used to, but it’s a short learning curve. The TV’s set up is pretty straight forward and it easily detect gaming systems, such as Xbox One and PS4 as well as the Apple TV. The Cost can be steep considering the price tag for a 55 inch is around the $1,500.00 mark. There may be some better options for the price out there.

    Final Thoughts

    Depending on who you are and how much television you watch, this could be the television for you. With stunning visuals and vibrant colors, this television elevates watching movies and sports to a whole new level. If you’re willing to shell out a hefty price tag, then look no further.
