Facebook Keyword Snooze, Finally We Can Hide Topics in Facebook

How many times have we had to avoid Facebook when our favorite teams are playing for fear of getting updates on the big games you have DVR’ed for later. Not to mention avoiding Game of Thrones spoilers as I tried to catch up on the latest season. Facebook has always been ripe with spoilers. Not any more.  No Longer will I have to sift through tons of Trump hate post and political garbage. Now Facebook is giving us the tool to block certain topics from our news feeds. Its true we can now you can mute those topics thanks to a new Facebook feature called “ Keyword Snooze .”

How To Setup The Keyword Snooze

Keyword Snooze is exactly what it sounds like, the feature gives you the option to temporarily snooze posts that contain a keyword of your choosing. When you set up the snooze, you won’t see any posts from individuals or groups that contain that word for 30 days. They’ll still show up for you on those individual’s pages, so you’ll need to browse carefully if you’re trying to avoid spoilers, but it will at least keep your News Feed safe.

Its very simple to activate and implement. To activate Keyword Snooze just tap on the three buttons at the top right-hand side of a post similar to the kind you’re trying to avoid. A pop-up window will appear with options like Save Post, Hide post, and Unfollow. At the bottom, you’ll see “Snooze keywords in this post.” and off we go.

While  you still have to find a post about the topic to click the keyword snooze option, which seems like a waste of the function. Facebook is reporting that they are in the works to enable a way of proactively activating the keyword snooze.

    The Final Thought

This is part of Facebook revival attempts. They are trying to fix all the issues we have with Facebook in an effort to bring the kids back. Im excited and grateful that this is coming and will be immensely usefully for me. No more spoiled Yankees games or big Aaron Judge homers being bragged about when I haven’t had the chance to enjoy the game first.  The good folks on the west coast may now be able to be surprised buy who gets voted off Survivor this season, and #spoileralert that just may make the world a slightly brighter place.

  • Tech Throwback: Web TV

    Tech Throwback: Web TV

I like to take a look at where I’ve been to evaluate where Im going. Technology is cyclical after all… wait no its not. That said I still like all the feels that come rushing back like a flood of nostalgia every time I get my hand on the tech I grew up with. Im going to go back periodically and take a looking at the stuff that used to blow our hair back and get our minds rolling. Some of these device blew up and changed the world, some where ahead of their time and some just fell flat and became colossal failures. Today we have a massive swing and a miss. This was an idea that seemed right and destined for greatness but just missed. Today lets pull up the old Web TV.

This was the brain child of  Steve Perlman. He first combined computer and television as a high-school student when he decided his home PC needed a graphics display. He went to build software for companies such as Apple and Atari. While working at General Magic, the idea of bringing TVs and computers together resurfaced.

One night, Perlman was browsing the web and came across a Campbell’s soup website with recipes. He thought that the people who might be interested in what the site had to offer were not using the web. It occurred to him that if the television audience was enabled by a device to augment television viewing with receiving information or commercial offers through the television, then perhaps the web address could act as a signal and the television cable could be the conduit. Pretty brilliant and right there in front all of our faces.

Web TV and How it Worked

Web TV was launched on September 18, 1996 with Web TV set-top boxes in stores from Sony and Philips. They ran all of the servers in an old BMW dealership. The initial price for the Web TV set-top box was US$349 for the Sony version and US$329 for the Philips version, with a wireless keyboard available for about an extra US$50. The monthly service fee initially was US$19.95 per month for unlimited Web surfing and e-mail.  The box featured a 64-bit RISC CPU chip, and a smart card reader. The smart card reader was not utilized significantly. The web browser was compatible with both Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer and the Web TV set-top box featured 2 MB of RAM. The first WebTV set-top boxes had a 33.6 kbit/s modem, and later versions had 56kbit/s modems.

By 1998 Web TV was on its way, they where pulling 1.3 billion dollars a year and it looked like we where on the way to a TV/computer consolidation. Then Microsoft stepped in 2001. They purchased Web TV and it all seemed to fall apart. They keyboard and controls where difficult to use. The applications where not growing with the rest of the tech world. Shortly after the MSN TV re-branding it was all but dead in the water.

    The Final Thought

With out the adaptations of the most popular internet apps and functions this just became that cool thing that one friend in the neighborhood had. Skip forward a few years and Smart tvs are a cornerstone to our digital world. While I attempted to find an old Web Tv box and play with it in a demonstration for this article, apparently its just not feasible with there being no internet connection service to log on through. Web Tv came and went with no fanfare, soon to be totally forgotten. Never getting its just deserves and never to be seen or used again but for those brief years of 95-2001.

  • Smartphone Spotlight: Galaxy Note 9

    Smartphone Spotlight: Galaxy Note 9

The 128GB Galaxy Note 9 can be purchased through carriers including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Verizon Wireless and Xfinity, along with Best Buy, Costco, Sam’s Club, Straight Talk Wireless, Target, Walmart, Samsung.com and the ShopSamsung app.

    The Great

    • Slamtastic Screen
    • Instalike worthy camera
    • Adequate long battery
    • Interesting new S-Pen tricks
    • All the Specs needed

    The Not

    • Way, way too pricey
    • Possibilities of Violent Explosions

    The Conclusion

The Galaxy Note 9 is Samsung’s Ultimate cry for tech geek attention. It has all the specs, a gigantic, magnificent, Fortnite worthy screen, a Bluetooth-powered S Pen, and a headphone jack… you know just all the essentials on the checklist for the kind of Android user that Samsung is targeting with a Note update. It’s a Phablets lover’s dream come true, if it doesn’t kill you

Who still remembers the terror Samsung bestowed amongst the world two years ago? Who remembers when the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 launched to much fanfare with ravastious acclimates from all. Shouting from the heavens this is sciences gift to man. A short while after the device made it into the worlds hands the batteries violently exploded it was seemed like a coordinated terrorist attack.

Y’all remember when that happened? At the time, Samsung had initially responded with assurances that it was an isolated problem that it would handle on a case-by-case basis, but eventually realized the issue was beyond control. Eventually, it issued a full recall for all Note 7 devices around the world. That was two years ago, this is the Note 9 we are talking about today.

Galaxy Note 9 puts powerful technology in the hands of the tech geeks and gamers who demand more powerful and more screen from their smartphones. It certainly boast Innovative features and design make it the only phone to keep up with the next generation of users. Yes the rumors we have been telling you are true. Packed with a huge battery, a massive screen, and a powerful stylus, the Note 9 has more of everything than any other phone on the US market.

How does it look and feel

It’s large, I mean this phone is obscenely large. And when you put it in a case, it will become a liability. This is not a one-handed phone for any but the largest hands. Samsung moved the fingerprint sensor so no longer will the Note 9 fit into Note 8 case. On the bright side no more inadvertently smudging the camera lens.

The Galaxy Note 9 has a 6.4-inch quad HD Super AMOLED curved screen, and USB-C and standard headphone jacks, it is IP68 Waterproof. We have been through this, the checklist of required wants and needs are covered. Not only that but it is stunning, think Charlene Theron on the red carpet elegant.

No 5g on The Galaxy Note 9

We have talked about 5G coming next year, Don’t get hung up on that; it will be another year before 5G is widespread and before chipset makers work out the power-management kinks that come with new wireless data systems. Yes write that down you are hearing it here first. Next year’s Note 10 will be 5G. Wanna wait that long? Anyways, The existing X20 modem get speeds up to 700Mbps with the right carrier setup, showing there’s still plenty of room in 4G. That’ll do, That’ll do just fine.

    Sounds and Stuff

The Note 9 brings the S9+’s dual speakers to the Note line. The two speakers are by the earpiece, and along the bottom. Compared to the previous Note 8’s single bottom speaker, the speakers here aren’t much louder but clarity and treble are off the charts. Outside of the iPhone X I don’t think I have heard a better device speaker.

    The Biggest Difference

The Galaxy Note 9’s biggest upgrade is its enhanced and gargantuan 4,000mAh battery hit it with a 10-hour battery test video. Yes you know the one where I leave it on the10 hour loop of He-Man singing 4 non blondes “what’s going on”. Results, 13% left, astounding. This leads me into projecting screen-on battery life out to 12 and half hours. That Destroys all other flagship smartphone on the market. The battery is significantly larger than the one in the Galaxy S9+ (3,500mAh, 10+ hours), the Galaxy Note 8 (3,300mAh, 6 hours), or the Galaxy Note 5 (3,020mAh, 8 hours and 30 minutes).

    Quick Speck Look

    • Graphics Mali-G72 MP18
    • Processor Octa core (2.7 GHz, Quad core, M3 Mongoose + 1.7 GHz, Quad core, Cortex A55)
    • Architecture 64 bit
    • Ram 6 GB
    • Audio Features Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus
    • Display Type Super AMOLED
    • Aspect Ratio 18.5:9
    • Screen Size 6.4 inches (16.26 cm)
    • Screen Resolution 1440 x 2960 pixel

    The Final Thought

If this thing doesn’t explode in our face we have a monster here. The screen alone will improve your Fortnite results instantly giving you an unfair advantage over any other player on a regular smartphone. It’s the battery though, it’s just too good to be true. Add in their shaky past and it’s something to be weary off.

  • Instagram TV

    Instagram TV

Instagram is primed and placed to make the next big social media step forward and dethrone Youtube. At a fancy event in San Francisco, the company announced it will begin allowing users to upload videos up to 1 hour in length, up from the previous 1 minute limit. Instagram TV plans to  house the new longer-form videos from star content creators, Instagram is launching IGTV. All this potentially game changing content will be available from a button atop the Instagram home screen, IGTV will spotlight popular videos from Instagram celebrities.

What is getting most excited about this is the logo. It has the classic Mtv’s TV lettering attache to the IG logo. This indicated all I need to know about this. It says we don’t know what this, where it will go or what we will see but its gonna be cool. This could open the door for really interesting and creative content that isnt set out to make a profit or sell ads but for real creative expression.

“It’s time for video to move forward, and evolve” said Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom on stage at the event. “IGTV is for watching long-from videos from your favorite creators.” This could mean no waiting for shows to go through market research or producers to get green lit, just shoot and show. Its gonna be fun.

IGTV will let anyone be a creator, not just big name celebrities. People will be able to upload vertical videos through Instagram’s app or the web.

In the IGTV hub, viewers will be able to swipe through a variety of longer-form videos. Or a quick swipe up to visit a Browse tab of personally recommend videos, popular videos, creators they’re following. It will also feature the option to continue watching previously started videos. Users will also get callouts from the IGTV button alerting them to new content.

    The Final Thought

Instagram TV videos will include link-out options allowing creators to drive traffic to their own websites and stories. The details on monetization are yet to be confirmed. It is clear that this sort of platform would be a direct competitor to sites like youtube. Users might be able to explore the hub later today. Take note, The entertainment and social media world just changed.

  • Old Games, Big Bucks

    Old Games, Big Bucks

A new hipster craze. Those words make my eyes roll straight out of there sockets, figuratively of course. However hipster gamers are not anticipating and pre-ordering the latest and greatest we saw announced at last weeks E3. Instead, they’re hunting through garage sales, flea markets, eBay and specialty stores for old games that came out 20 years ago. On top of that they are paying outrageous prices for these old games. looks like its time for trip to moms house to rummage through the attic for some aged tech treasure.

The nostalgia theme taking a chunk of the video game market these days it all but fantastic. Nintendo, Atari and Sega have all brought back classic mini consoles or you can grab a raspberry PI kit and DIY. Its the Peter Pan in us aging men that is driving this desire for the enjoyments of our youth. This nostalgia isnt very discerning either as the old games and consoles that are bringing in these high dollar scores. They value is in all consoles from the Atari 2600 to the PlayStations of the 2000s.

Odd Collectors are now finding them sitting on valuable assets, and hipsters are parting with tons of their parents money to get back their youth. Some games are bringing in as much as $50,000. If you are sitting on a copy of “Nintendo World Championships 1990?” Then you could have a $100,000. While its not only about the cash, please take the cash now while this market exists and the bubble hasn’t popped.  If Im writing about this then you know clever investors are plotting a what to capitalize so rest assure this bubble will pop, plan for that.

    The Final Thought

While most collectors are more interested in rounding out their personal game libraries, reliving the games they loved as children or simply exploring the history of the gaming industry first-hand. The hype is real and these old games are back and getting a second dose of attention.

  • Tech Throwback: The Sega Genesis CD

Tech Throwback: The Sega Genesis CD

I like to take a look at where I’ve been to evaluate where Im going. Technology is cyclical after all… wait no its not. That said I still like all the feels that come rushing back like a flood of nostalgia every time I get my hand on the tech I grew up with. Im going to go back periodically and take a looking at the stuff that used to blow our hair back and get our minds rolling. Some of these device blew up and changed the world, some where ahead of their time and some just fell flat and became colossal failures. Today we are going to talk about the Sega Genesis CD

When this CD-ROM accessory was released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis video game console, video gamers everywhere rejoiced. Let’s take a look at one of tech’s most beloved creations of the ’90s. While this was highly anticipated it was rarely adapted. The way this worked was you would purchase the Sega Genesis CD and plug it in to your existing 16 bit console allowing you to play PC like CD ROM games. The main benefit of CD technology was greater storage, which allowed for games to be nearly 320 times larger than Genesis cartridges. This benefit manifested as full motion video.

    The Games

The Sega CD supports a library of over 200 games created both by Sega and an array of third-party publishers. Included in this library are six games which, while receiving individual Sega CD releases, also received separate versions that utilized both the Sega CD and 32X add-ons. Among the games released for the add-on were a number of FMV games, including Sewer Shark and Fahrenheit. Well-regarded games include Sonic CD, Lunar: Eternal Blue and Lunar: The Silver Star, Popful Mail, and Snatcher. And we wont even talk about the controversial Night Trap.

Lets Play the Sega Genesis CD

So for the small price of almost $300 I was able to get an original in box Sega Genesis with The Sega Genesis CD and one game.. Ecco The Dolphin. Ecco the Dolphin is an action-adventure game originally developed by Ed Annunziata and Novotrade International for the Sega Genesis CD.

Since this is the only game I have and the only game I really remember from my brief time with my neighbors Sega Genesis CD. This is the game we are playing today. Basically you are a Dolphin, swimming around doing Dolphin stuff. Attacking enemies is accomplished by making Ecco ram into them at high speeds. Swimming can be made progressively faster by tapping a certain button. The speed can be maintained by holding it down. You can also perform a purely aesthetic spin in the air when jumping out of the water. Its ok and my nephews are loving it

    The Final Thought

While this flopped, it was groundbreaking. Shortly after it would pave the way for the PlayStation and Sega DreamCast and for that we are grateful.

  • 5 Game Releases From E3 That Are a Must Play

5 Game Releases From E3 That Are a Must Play

This was considered by most to be a week year at the E3 conference. Expectations going in where low to begin with and nothing earth shattering or even mildly interesting was revealed. What we did get is a ton of really amazing games. An endless supply of games were announced and they all look pretty great. Lets take a look at the biggest and best 5 Game Releases we will be playing all next year.

    1. Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Finally we get what we wanted from Nintendo, and may have to go purchase a switch just for this. Nintendo Switch’s first “Smash Bros. was a classic hit, but Ultimate will be enev bigger. Yes, every character that’s ever appeared in a “Smash Bros.” is here (that’s over 60, including rarities like “Metal Gear’s” Solid Snake). Nintendo has really stepped up the combat and evolved every character to have the Ultimate moves, stages and animations. This will ensure “Ultimate” is the best, visually amazing, craziest and quickest “Smash” to date. This will be the game that keeps droves of children occupied this holiday season.

    2. Spiderman

Just titled Spiderman and set for a Sept 7th release,  Sony and Insomniac’s “Spider-Man” is exploding with excitement and hitting number 2 on our top 5 Game Releases, The WebCrawlers latest installment  is going to be fantastic in its actions, NYC renderings and non stop Spidery action. Not to mention the best activity is still just swinging around over the Manhattan skyline, which will be greatly enhanced.  Bringing an “Arkham”-like combat system, impressive voice work and ridiculously cinematic battles, and endless parade of villains. This is  shaping up to be the best superhero games we’ve ever played. It’s also wowed a certain comic company: Marvel was so impressed with Insomniac’s work, they’re including the video game version of Spidey in their official canon. Hurry up and get here Sept 7th, im seriously pondering the Eric Cartman freezing my self idea.

    3. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Origins was a magnificent success for Ubisoft, so much it decided to just take the leap  and blast out the next AC into a full-blown role-playing game for our enjoyment. For us, This one will be set during the Peloponnesian War in Greece, “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” lets players choose genders, bulk up tons of stats, collect gear and goodies and even shape the story with new branching dialogue options. This is shaping up to take Assassins Creed to the next level of immersion and action. Ill be pre-ording this one ASAP. Its hard not to have this as the number 1 game on the 5 Game Releases list.

    4. CyberPunk 2077

After three games of high fantasy, via an adaptation of The Witcher series, CD Projekt Red is starting up a new franchise in a completely different genre. It’s full of big ideas and promises huge amounts of customisation and individuality when it comes to your character and play-style. Cyberpunk 2077 is a role-playing video game played in a first-person perspective as V, a mercenary whose sex, hairstyles, face, body type, body modifications, background, and clothing are customisable. V’s clothing alters how interactions fare with non-player characters who are also at V’s disposal for romantic and sexual relationships. This looks to be the game we never saw coming, totally innovative and set to really blow us away, like the original resident evil did many years ago. This will be the game all the cool kids will be talking about around the water cooler.

    5. Fallout 76

number 5 on our top 5 Game Releases for 2018…Who doesnt love Fallout? Who hasent been anticipating the next Fallout installment? Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of Skyrim and Fallout 4, welcomes us all to Fallout 76, the online prequel where every surviving human is a *real person*. Work together – or not – to survive. Under the threat of nuclear annihilation, you’ll experience the largest, most dynamic world ever created in the legendary Fallout universe.

  • Beau’s No. 1 App Review: Hole.io

    Beau’s No. 1 App Review: Hole.io

Beau’s App series. Each week, I install whatever is the No. 1 bestselling app on the iOS or Android store and review it, to save you the effort in case it’s total waste of life. This week a game called Hole.io is in the top spot and we are gonna talk about it. Why isn’t it No. 1? not sure, its a very simple and basic game but it’s free. So let take a look and see what has this game rocketing to the top of the charts.

The latest twist on multiplayer growth game “Agar.io” has arrived, with “Hole.io,” from French publisher Voodoo. Enter the arena and face the other holes in a fierce battle. you go head to head with 8 other live players. The goal is to eat everything in sight, including other holes to increase your size and consume larger object. Eat everything in sight with your black hole and expand it to eat more! Show them who is the biggest hole in town!

So far I have enjoyed this game immensely, much more than I expected that I would. Its fun challenging and addictive. When Hole.io becomes bigger, its strength to pull other things becomes much more powerful.  Hole.io is easy to use yet very funny to play. What I enjoy is its a 2 min time investment, its quick fun, easy and challenging at the same time. 8 Players 2 mins…go.

    Good App Not Great

While I have enjoyed the game a lot over the past few days, I do have some beefs and Id like to address them now. This is a good game but few minor improvements and this can be a great game and hit universal popularity. First, I need different modes. Size and Time variation to choose from. Its only been a few days and I feel like I have seen all there is to be seen. Second, some new maps would be great, right now there is only one. Spice it up with some new maps or even mock ups of real cities. Go obscure with it, instead of New York, DC and LA. Let me play Tucson, Daytona Beach and Bend, OR. Let me eat a city I’ve never been to and haven’t seen in a video game a billion times. Lastly, address the lag and lack of speed, make my hole faster and fix the lagging.

    The Final Thought

This game has blown up on the scene in just a month. It fun, entertaining and has a ton of potential.

  • Microsoft HoloLens 2 Could Be The VR Evolution

Microsoft HoloLens 2 Could Be The VR Evolution

They Said it, we know it, the Microsoft HoloLens 2 is coming. As itis said, It will arrive packing Qualcomm’s powerful XR1 chipset that’s designed for the next gen VR and AR experiences.

In the guts of the Microsoft HoloLens 2 augmented/mixed-reality headset is stated to be an amazing and unexpected appearance of Qualcomm’s own XR1 VR chip. The Processor we thought was possible but seemed only plausible in theory. The processor isn’t technically as powerful as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, but according to all the information we have on the XR1 so far, it’s made for and capable of running the next gen VR headsets. The hardware itself is said to be coming to the market starting in early 2019.

Qualcomm states that the XR1 is capable of streaming content at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. This would certainly elevate the new HoloLens 2 to the top of the VR headset charts and dethrone the Oculus. The Microsoft HoloLens could re-invent the standard for the movie experience.

Virtual and augmented reality headsets need to get cheaper and better to arouse casual buyers beyond hardcore gamers and tech geeks. We know the Oculus gets it, for just a mere $200. The current generation of Microsoft’s own headset, the HoloLens, starts at $3000. While its mostly for developers, the next generation needs lower price to be commercially viable.

    The Final Thought

VR is set to explode, who wants to go first. The company that can get all the intricate pieced together and put out the headset that works great, easy to use and universally compatible with some jaw dropping experiences will get to rule the VR world. The platform is set the battle is open but no one seems to want to make a run at it. So they all know something we don’t ? I sure hope so and im not just standing here holding my breath for no reason. Come one Microsoft HoloLens 2, change my world… my VR world.

    The Standard, Really Just Standard

It looks like one thing Samsung got right for sure is the use of the word standard. This 2 in one is definitely that, standard. The 2-in-1 convertible is designed to help people get the most out of Chrome OS. Samsung has listed some highlight from the announcments..

    The Final Thought

This is just another mediocre Samsung device, put out by what is becoming the standard of a mediocre company. Samsung fails to innovate or at least manipulate someone eases innovation yet again. Uninspired, its just the Chromebook on the self if you need a Chromebook and you probably don’t.
