Alienware M15, The Lightest and Thinnest Yet

Big,big news out of Dell today. Or should I say small, thin news? Alienware has announced its new m15 gaming laptop. Dell’s gaming computer division is blowing away the bigger competition by building its thinnest and lightest 15-inch laptop yet.Alienware M15, lets see what we got.

    The Design Changes

The Design, let’s talk about it. The Alienware M15 is Different from what Alienware has been doing. It is completely visible when you compare them side by side. The new m15 offers slimmer bezels, a reduced footprint, and it looks so sleek, and so choice. The new m15 measures in at 4.76 pounds and 0.83 inches thick. If you are keeping eyes out on the competition that’s smaller than the Razr. Alienware has gone on record saying the m15 is the thinnest laptop it’s ever made. They are comparing it against the old 13-inch model, which weighs 5.8 pounds and is 14 percent thicker than the m15.

WE also have a new keyboard remodel to a chiclet design. If you are concerned, yes it is still backlit. It host in a full number pad and trackpad into a more modern combined pad. All the plug and ports are here. The M15 is rocking three USB ports, one USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI and Mini DisplayPorts, Ethernet, and Alienware’s proprietary Graphics Amplifier plug.

    Specs

The Specs are just what you need, want and would expect. Not overloaded but just right. With a thinner, Nvidia Max-Q design that trades some performance for portability, 8th Gen Intel processors, up to 32GB of RAM, and plenty of different storage options. You get the options between a 60Hz FHD display, a 144Hz FHD panel designed for gaming, and a 60Hz UHD display that offers better resolution.

    The Final Alienware M15 Thought

If a $3000, 15 inch gaming laptop is your market… Look no further than the Alienware M15. It seems like an oddly specific, small niche market. This isnt a ground breaking release or discovery. Just another update to a long line of great, reliable and powerful gaming laptops.

    Best Senior Cell Phone Plans

A cell phone plan today is a very important aspect of your life. The best phone plan for seniors is one that is affordable while also helping them connect with their loved ones. Seniors should be able to stay in touch with their family wherever they go without wasting away their retirement funds.

In the past cell phones were not quite necessities and many seniors didn’t need or want to have a cell phone. That has changed and cell phones can be very helpful for seniors who want to stay connected with friends and family while always having a links to doctors and experts for financial and medical purposes. Older adults need a convenient way to keep in touch, and a cellphone is great to have in the event of an emergency!

All cell phone plans are not created equally and you can easily overpay for a cell phone plan loaded with unnecessary features. Elderly adults can save money with senior cell phone plans by only paying for the simple phone services they’ll realistically use. Standard cellular plans include large amounts of data usage, while senior phone plans are mainly centered on talking and texting with much smaller data limits.

    Best Phone Plan for Seniors

Currently, the 3 top cell phone plans for seniors are  GreatCall Basic, AT&T Senior Nation Plan and Verizon Nationwide 65 Plus. The time has come for you to save your retirement money with these senior cell phones plans. Keeping reading to learn more about how seniors can help save money on their cell phone plan.

    GreatCall Basic

GreatCall Basic plan is a great phone plan for seniors. GreatCall’s Basic plan offers 5-star service for as little $19.99 per month. Usually, older adults don’t use nearly as much data as younger people. However, most phone plans charge the most for data usage. GreatCall Basic is a great choice for seniors that don’t use a lot of data and on a fixed income.  Whether in need of emergency medical services, contacting family, or roadside assistance, GreatCall’s 5-star service agents can contact whoever you need during emergencies. It also offers long distance, caller ID, voicemail and roaming, too! Add to that 400 talk minutes for $10, or even 1,500 minutes for $30, and you have a pretty good deal on your hands. You can even get 300 texts for $3 or 2,500 texts for $15, or you can opt for unlimited talk and text for $40 per month. That’s a hard deal to beat.

    AT&T Senior Nation Plan

This $30 per month plan is perfect for seniors. AT&T offers 200 minutes of talk at any time, and 500 minutes at night. Calls to other AT&T customers don’t even count against your minutes! This plan also includes free long distance and roaming calls. The one catch is that this plan is only available to seniors with basic phones. Smartphones aren’t able to use this phone plan. However, many seniors don’t have smartphones, so this likely isn’t an issue for most people interested in the plan.

    Verizon Nationwide 65 Plus

Much like AT&T’s offering, the Verizon 65 Plus plan offers 500 night minutes and 200 anytime talk minutes. Also like AT&T, this plan runs for $30 per month. This plan also offers text messages at $.20 per text, or 1000 texts for $10 per month. For those looking to send a lot of texts, they can get unlimited texts for $20 per month! Additionally, data usage starts at $2 per MB of data used. Alternatively, you can get 75MB of data for just $10 per month! All in all, this is a great phone plan for seniors.

AT&T Senior Plans They Don’t Tell You About

  • Microsoft HoloLens 2 slated for 2019 release

Microsoft HoloLens 2 slated for 2019 release

Microsoft will apparently released the long awaited Hololens 2 in the first quarter of 2019. Code-named Sydney within Microsoft, the device will be cheaper than the original (which costs $3,000), be lighter in weight, and more comfortable to wear, according to a news reports. At this time, we don’t know a whole lot of what Hololens 2 will be outfitted with, but the word is Microsoft is going all in on this one. Upon its release, Hololens 2 is fully expected to surpass Google AR goggles and the Oculus Rift.

    What We Know So Far

According to Alex Kipman, Microsoft Technical Fellow of the Windows and Devices Group and key advocate for HoloLens, it’s been earmarked for the new version of the AR headset that the company has in the pipeline. Indeed, the HoloLens team had already previewed some of the news about the new sensor earlier in the year, beating CEO Satya Nadella to the punch. The sensor has 1024 x 1024 resolution, Kipman says, and a global shutter for improved performance in sunlight conditions. It has the highest figure of merit, too – that is to say, the highest modulation frequency and modulation contrast – which means lower power consumption. Indeed, overall system power is just 225-950 mw. That’s despite adding things like automatic per-pixel gain selection, for a broader dynamic range. That will give HoloLens 2 better abilities at capturing both near and far objects. There’s multiphase depth calculation support, which will preserve accuracy even if the chip, laser, or power supplies vary.

“With HoloLens, we saw incredible results when we took some of the magic of Kinect and applied it in a mixed reality context,” Kipman writes “The current version of HoloLens uses the third generation of Kinect depth-sensing technology to enable it to place holograms in the real world. With HoloLens we have a device that understands people and environments, takes input in the form of gaze, gestures and voice, and provides output in the form of 3D holograms and immersive spatial sound.”

    Summary

At an expected cost of around $3,000.00 it’s hard to say what can be expected for the Hololens 2. If the hype around it is real, then it maybe worth scraping up some dough and getting yourself a new toy. For now, I’ll anxiously await to hear more about the specs on these bad boys.

    • Locks automatically as you leave and unlocks when you arrive.
    • Simple, DIY installation. Install in about 10 minutes with just a screwdriver.

    The Not

    • To remotely control the lock you have to purchase a seperate wifi adapter
    • Not Homekit compatible
    • Loud internal operation when the lock is activated

    The Conclusion

This seems to have everything I would want in a smart lock. However if you want anything more than bluetooth connectivity, you’ll need to buy the separate device that hooks up to wifi, called the August Connect

August has been at the forefront of home security for several years, impressing consumers with two generations of smart and secure door locks that integrate with third-party devices and work with Amazon Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant. August’s family of Smart Home products include the Smart Lock Pro, the August Connect Wi-Fi Bridge, and August Doorbell Cam Pro. Today we take a look at August’s new entry-level smart lock. That is just what it is entry level.

With an  installation time of just 15 minutes thanks to an innovative design and step-by-step guidance through the process. Despite being less than half the price of the Smart Lock Pro, it’s pleasing to see that August hasn’t scrimped on the Smart Lock’s impressive user experience. It also won’t confound your friends or family members who haven’t seen a smart lock before. Mom…

IT is easy to use, easy to set up and wont break the bank. The big catch is you have to  partner lock with the August Connect Wi-Fi Bridge, available separately at $79 for remote access and enhanced smart device integration. Otherwise, the August Smart Lock supports an impressive array of features.

The Final August Smart Lock Thought

There’s no Z-Wave Plus or Apple HomeKit support, and without the $79 August Connect bridge, you can’t use Alexa or Google Assistant, or remotely control your lock away from your home either. Those are notable missing features, but it makes the price gap — $279 for the Pro and $149 for the standard Smart Lock. Entry level smart lock to protect and modernize the entry of your home.
