Amazon Alexa to Have Full Spanish-Language Integration

Spanish-speaking Amazon Echo users have reason to be excited: Amazon has announced that their Alexa voice assistant will support Spanish-language commands. This news coincides with reports that app developers who have Alexa-enabled features on their apps can request developer kits to develop Spanish-language skills.

    Amazon to Speak Spanish Soon

    Amazon’s Statement

This news comes courtesy of Amazon themselves. The company made the news public in a blog post relating to the future of Alexa and Alexa-enabled devices.

“Along with the Echo family of devices, later this year Bose, Facebook, and Sony will bring Alexa Built-in devices and Philips, TP Link, and Honeywell Home will bring Works with Alexa devices that support Spanish in the US,” Stated Amazon in their post.

    Why Spanish?

Spanish is one of the most-spoken languages on Earth, and the number of markets Amazon is opening itself up to is enormous with this move. More than just making it possible to sell Echo devices in Spanish-speaking countries, this also means that native Spanish-speakers in places like the US can feel more comfortable using the device.

This could also prove a useful learning tool for people who want to learn Spanish. What better way to learn a language than to speak it daily?

    Smart Homes and Accessibility

Amazon’s goal, of course, is to get Alexa into as many homes as possible. The smart-home speakers Echo and Show are two of Amazon’s best-selling products, so it makes sense the company would want them to be as accessible as possible.

If you’re wondering what all the fuss over Alexa is about, consider trying an Amazon Echo Dot, the introductory level smart-home speaker. It starts you off with an Alexa-enabled device and shows the power and convenience of smart speakers. The Echo Dot is available from Amazon for $50 for the third-generation speaker.

  • Ever Dreamed of Starting Your Own Business? Have You Considered Dropshipping?

Ever Dreamed of Starting Your Own Business? Have You Considered Dropshipping?

    What is a Dropshipping Business?

Drop shipping is proving to be an extremely popular business model to budding entrepreneurs, especially, millennials and gen Zers. This is because it relies largely on internet marketing skills and the idea of not handling stock or the items one is selling adds to its allure.

If you have been looking for a business that you can start with limited funds, and grow as you continue with your regular job, then drop shipping is for you. Here’s a detailed guide on how to start a dropshipping business.

In a dropshipping business, the store owner gets to sell directly to the customer without having any inventory. When a consumer buys a product in this store, the product is shipped to them by a third-party supplier.

In terms of prices, the consumer pays the retail price the store owner has set, while the store owner pays the supplier the wholesale price. The rest is profit!!

How to Start a Dropshipping Business in 2021

Now that we’ve seen what dropshipping is all about, here’s what you need to do to set up such a business:

Commit to setting up a dropshipping business

Here’s what we mean by this: you’ll need to invest heavily either in time or money.

Dropshipping is no different from other businesses. It will require significant commitment and that you have a long-term perspective. What do we mean by investing in each of these?

    Investing time into the business

This is our preferred form of investment for various reasons:

    • You learn the ins and outs of how the business operates, which will come in handy when the business grows and you have to manage it.
    • You develop an intimate knowledge of your customers and market, and this informs your decision making.
    • You’ll steer clear of vanity projects that may eat up your capital to no success.
    • You’ll pick up some new skills that will help grow you as an entrepreneur.

While not everyone might be able to quit their job and embark on growing their online store, it is still possible to start this business while holding a 9-to-5 position. All you need is to set the right expectations towards customer service and the appropriate fulfillment times for customers. As the business grows, you can move to working full time depending on the business’ cash flow and profitability.

    Investing money into the business

In this approach, you invest a significant amount of money on programmers, developers, and marketers.

However, this approach has proven to be too expensive in the long end compared to investing time. This is because success in the dropshipping business requires that you be deeply invested in its success as you grow it from the ground up. Additionally, having no knowledge of how the business works at different levels may expose you to manipulation from expensive ‘experts’.

While you don’t have to do everything on your own, it’s advisable to be the primary driving force from the go.

However, you still need a small amount of money in the range of $1,000 for your business to be launched and be operational. This will be used in operational expenses and any incorporation fees required. Once you are committed to the business, the next step is coming up with a business idea.

    Come up with a niche

The niche that you come up with has to be laser-focused and one that you love. If the product range is not focused, you’ll have a hard time marketing it. And if you are not passionate about the niche you choose, you might end up getting discouraged, as it is a lot of work scaling a drop shipping business successfully. With all this in mind, here’s how you can settle on a niche:

Settle for businesses with large profit margins. When in the drop shipping business, your focus is usually on marketing and customer acquisition. This means that the effort needed to sell a $20 item is almost the same as for a $1,500 item. As such, settle for a niche that has on demand higher-priced products.

Low shipping costs are crucial. Your supplier may be handling the shipping, but if the cost is too steep, then it may drive customers away. For this reason, find items that are inexpensive to ship, as this may present you the option of free shipping to your customers, taking up the cost in a bid to attract additional sales.

Ensure your products appeal to impulse buyers’ with lots of disposable income. When you are keen on getting traffic to your website, you want the highest conversion rate as most visitors might not come back. The products on sale should lead to impulse buys and appeal to those with disposable income.

Ensure people are actively searching for the item. Leverage tools like Trends and Google’s Keyword Planner to check keywords related to your niche of interest. If no one is searching, that might not be a lucrative niche.

Develop your brand. You earn bonus points if you can rebrand what you are selling and sell it as your own. Look for products that you can white label and make them your brand using custom branding and packaging.

Niches that you can start from home

Here are some of the most lucrative dropshipping niches:

    1. Power tools
    2. Tech supplies
    3. Lifestyle niche
    4. Beauty and Health
    5. Drones and Accessories

    Conduct Competition research

You are probably aware that you will be operating in the same sphere as other drop shipping operations including retail giants like Amazon and Walmart. In spite of this, don’t make the mistake of going for a product that has little or no competition. This is actually a sign that there is no demand for the product.

Some of the reasons why a product may face no competition include high shipping costs, lower profit margins, or manufacturing and supplier issues. Settle for products with competition, as this shows there’s high demand and the business model is sustainable.

Some ways to conduct competitor research include:

    1. Leverage competitor spy tools like Alexa and Similar Web. These tools are good at tracking your competitors’ online activity. They’ll compile competitor online information, including their social media profiles, number of visitors, top traffic sources, and their competitors.
    2. Social media. Browse for Facebook ads related to your niche and note the top brands in the area. Look at how they communicate with their customers, how their feed is designed, and the amount of engagement they are getting.
    3. Subscribe to their email lists. By subscribing to your competitors’ email lists, you get their updates right into your inbox. You also get to see their marketing strategy. You also learn about the deals and promotions that they use to draw customers to buy from them.
    4. Google search. Search engines are a great place to start. Compile a list of your top five competitors. Search key search terms in your niche, like ‘phone covers.’ The top results are your top competitors and you will gather information on how they promote their products.

Learn everything you can from your customers and keep the research in a spreadsheet for continuous reference.

    Settle for a supplier

Settling for a dropshipping supplier is a crucial step if you are to create a successful business. Without a supplier, you won’t have products to ship to the consumer, and your business will never see light of day. Partnering with the wrong supplier is another step into the grave and therefore you need to exercise utmost caution.

Ensure your conduct due diligence. As you will learn, many drop shipping suppliers are found overseas, thus communication is crucial, both in terms of their response speed and also being able to understand one another. If you are not fully confident with their communication abilities, then better ditch them for another supplier.

Alibaba has grown to be one of the largest resources of finding and communicating with potential suppliers and manufacturers. Oberlo is also a marketplace that helps you find products to sell online. Ensure you ask lots of questions and identify their production capabilities if your business is to grow exponentially. You want a supplier that will be able to scale with you.

You can learn from other entrepreneurs who have set up similar businesses in the past. You can find plenty of information online from business blogs to subreddits on drop shipping.

    Build an eCommerce site

The next step to setting up a dropshipping business is to launch a website that supports this business model. You can leverage an ecommerce platform like Shopify for this. This site will be the home of your site- where you’ll be sending traffic, process payments, and sell products.

Shopify is a complete commerce platform that enables you to sell in different places, in multiple currencies, and you can manage products and payments. Plus, you don’t need designer skills or to be a developer to use Shopify. There are tools that will help you with everything that you need to design your store.

You might be tempted to get a web designer for a custom solution. However, it’s a wiser move to leverage plug-and-play alternatives, especially at the start. Once you are stable with a regular revenue stream, you can source for website customization.

    Choose a business structure

If you are keen on setting up a long-term venture, then you want to start a legitimate business entity. Here is a rundown of the three commonly used structures:

    1. Sole proprietorship. This is the simplest structure to implement. However, it has no personal liability protection. In the event that your business gets sued, your personal assets are at risk. Its filing requirements are minimal and your business’ earnings are reported on your personal taxes.
    2. Limited liability company (LLC). This offers more protection of personal assets as your business is established as a separate legal entity. There are additional filing requirements and you’ll pay incorporation and ongoing fees.
    3. C corporation. Major corporations fall under this, as it offers the most liability protection. They are more expensive to set up as they are subjected to double taxation.

***Seek legal advice when deciding on the kind of business to choose***

    Devise a customer acquisition plan

Despite having a killer product and website, you still need customers who want to buy. There are a number of ways to draw potential customers. The most effective way is to launch a Facebook ad campaign.

    • Facebook ads enable you to generate sales and revenue from the word go. This will allow you to scale quickly. The site also enables you to exhibit your offer directly to a highly targeted audience. This levels the playing field with larger brands and retailers.
    • Influencer marketing. If your budget is limited, influencer marketing is a sure way to experience higher return-on-investment while effeciently reaching your target audience. In fact, people nowadays tend to trust influencers more than conventional advertising. If you choose this route, settle on an affiliate fee as opposed to a flat rate. This way, you’ll both make money off each sale.
    • Content marketing. This method will give you a long-term traffic stream to your online store. Start a blog and produce content on your niche. Make the content educative and entertaining to your target audience. Additionally, you can opt to start a YouTube channel, start a podcast, or create infographics that help advertise your brand. For each strategy, ensure that you subtly include call to action tabs.
    • Communities. Involve yourself with cliques that are passionate about your niche. You can strike conversations with prospective customers on online forums such as Reddit, or even Facebook groups. Aim to help the potential customers while building relationships. This ensures they trust your brand and desire to buy from it.

    Analyze and improve

You need to keep track of the results of your campaign and whether it is reaping benefits. With Shopify analytics, you can get information on:

    1. Sales. You can identify your best performing channels, where to pump more money, your best selling products, and your best customers.
    2. Shopper behavior. This includes the medium, that is, desktop or mobile and their conversion rates.
    3. Profit margins. You compare the sales and gross profits of every month.

You can also leverage tools like Search Console and Google Analytics to gauge search traffic and improve on your SEO.

In conclusion, with those steps, you should be on your way to setting up a stable drop shipping business with a revenue stream of over 1000 dollars a month. And with more consumers migrating from physical stores to online stores, the future couldn’t be brighter for drop shipping. What are you waiting for? Opportunity is knocking!

  • Review: 5 Best Features in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10

Review: 5 Best Features in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10

To kick off the unveiling of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Plus, we’ve gathered a list jam-packed with the 5 coolest features included in the new smartphones. The Galaxy Note 10 is not just a new smartphone, it’s a gaming console, a film studio, a computer, comes with your own personal magic wand – and its all in one device!

    1. Smaller – and bigger
The Samsung Galaxy Note has always been identified as a “big phone.” Users are pleased to see a smaller, hand-friendly version of the Note 10. It is about 0.2-inches smaller than the Note 9 and the Note 10+. 0.2-inches may not sound like much, however it makes a significant difference when it comes to fitting in your hand. On the contrary, this is the first time Samsung has rolled out two versions of the Note to include the Note+ for those who prefer a bigger smartphone.

    2. 3D Scanning
While Samsung is not the first to roll out 3D scanning, they came up with a cool application for 3D scanning with Augmented Reality. Consumers can now 3D scan objects and drop them into their photos and videos. It doesn’t stop there; consumers can even animate them using motion capture. This will be huge for consumers that put out content on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok.

    3. Super-fast charging
Long gone are the days where your smartphone battery dies a few hours after charging. With a quick 30-minute charging session, the Galaxy Note 10 will hold battery juice all day long. Samsung did this by including a 45W charger to amp up the wattage in comparison to competitors that have a 30W charger.

    4. S-pen
Say goodbye to selfie sticks and self-timers because the Galaxy Note 10 comes with an S-pen that will allow consumers to take remote photos. It gets even better, with an accelerometer and gyroscope in the S-pen, consumers have their own personal magic wand with gesture-recognition technology.

    5. 5G
The future is here – 5G is the latest version of cellular networks. This is a once in a decade upgrade to the way consumers can wirelessly deliver data, making the Galaxy Note 10 one of the fastest and most powerful smartphones in the market. Just how much faster? In this new era, the Galaxy Note 10 with 5G will average out to be roughly 20 times faster than the traditional 4G network you are currently using.

Black Friday Deals You Can Get Right Now!

Over the past decade, Black Friday has emerged as one of the premier shopping days to find deals. However, these days- many retailers have made their exclusive sales on certain items available before Black Friday. Don’t be surprised to find that many products on the sites are on sale right now. Our team has scoured the big retailers to find the best for you. We’ve managed, through testimonials and referrals, to identify the crème de la crème products, and as a result compiled a list of best deals to shop for during this black Friday period.

Over the last couple of years, the market has been proliferated by these speakers, and thus to stand at the apogee and with little debate state that they are the best is something outstanding.

The main reason why the speaker has become so popular is the fact that you can simply control it with your voice. Amazon is cutting the price for the Amazon Echo Dot (3rd Gen) – Smart Speaker with Alexa by 21 dollars, hence dropping the price from $40 dollars to $19 dollars. That does warrant a spot in the best deals in this year’s Black Friday list.

Their earphones, in particular, have deluged the whole world with the quality of sound they produce combined with durability and the freedom of being wireless.

Just some days ago, for these premium earphones, you would have to part with around 100 dollars to acquire them. That being said, Best Buy has somehow managed to cut off more than $60 dollars from the price, ergo meaning for just $40 dollars, you will have some quality earphones that you are sure will not only give you the best musical experience but that they will also last.

You will be able to use the computer for 11 hours straight without needing a recharge. What’s more, the computer has a fast charge, and you will be able to charge 80% of the battery in just an hour.

Amazon has shaved off $200 dollars from its original price, $1600 dollars, and thus you can get it for just $1400 dollars.

    SAMSUNG T7 Portable SSD 2TB

That’s not the only thing this gadget does. In fact, dynamism is its selling point. You can also install your favorite music application, be it Spotify, apple music, or Pandora, and listen to music on it. Additionally, you can also make calls, both video, and audio, on it.

Amazon, maker of the Echo, sells the product at 130 dollars.  However, you can get the same exact device at a 65-dollar discount on Best Buy, meaning all you have to pay is $65 dollars, half the original cost. That is the magic of Black Friday.

  • Alexa Will Keep Your Home Safe with Alexa Home Guard

Alexa Will Keep Your Home Safe with Alexa Home Guard

Amazon’s Alexa is getting some new functionality for users in the US. The new functionality, Alexa Home Guard, will take steps to keep your home safer from burglars and home invasions. While Amazon has clarified that this new service will be no replacement for a home security service, it can be set up to send messages to your existing home security system.

    Alexa Home Guard

    How it Works

The Alexa Home Guard command, “Alexa, I’m leaving” will set your Alexa into Home Guard mode. When you step out, Alexa will be on the listen for whatever criteria you’ve set up to listen for. This can include the sound of breaking glass, or the sound of a smoke alarm going off.

When the system is tripped, you can set up a variety of responses the system goes through in reaction. Firstly, the system can send you a push alert to your phone to let you know what tripped the system, along with a recording of the incident.

Additionally, you can set the Home Guard system up to bring up your smart lights in an attempt to scare off would-be intruders. While this isn’t exactly the same as having a home security system, it’s a close approximation that is free to use.

    Drawbacks

While this service will be free and has lots of potential uses, there are a few drawbacks. For one thing, the system has to be listening the entire time you’re away. This could be a concern, given recent issues with Alexa listening in on conversations.

Another drawback of the Alexa Home Guard system is that it is only listening for specific criteria, like breaking glass and a smoke alarm. More mundane sounds, like the door opening or a window being pushed open, wouldn’t fire off the alert system, making it a bit of a half-measure in terms of full home security. This explains why Amazon warns that this isn’t a replacement for a full-blown home security system.

  • Amazon Alexa to Have Full Spanish-Language Integration in 2019

Amazon Alexa to Have Full Spanish-Language Integration in 2019

Spanish-speaking Amazon Echo users have reason to be excited: Amazon has announced that their Alexa voice assistant will support Spanish-language commands before the end of 2019.

  • Alexa Recordings Being Monitored by Amazon Employees

Alexa Recordings Being Monitored by Amazon Employees

Everyone’s worst fears about Amazon Echo were confirmed this week when Amazon admitted that its employees review audio the devices record. When Amazon introduced the smart speakers, concerns over security dubbed it a “self-imposed listening device”. Now, it turns out, the jokes were spot-on. However, is the recording egregious, or is it in line with Amazon’s promises about the device?

    Fears over Alexa Seemingly Confirmed

    Bloomberg Report

Bloomberg reported this week that, though most of the audio taken in by Alexa devices is run through a voice recognition software only, some snippets are sent to real people. The employees are sent short snippets of audio picked up by Alexa in order to add annotations.

According to Amazon, these annotations are strictly to help Alexa get better at listening to commands and responding. However, the presence of real people potentially overhearing their conversations has made some customers leery. What’s to stop Alexa from flat-out spying on you?

     Amazon’s Statement

“We take the security and privacy of our customers’ personal information seriously,” Amazon emailed to Bloomberg. “We only annotate an extremely small sample of Alexa voice recordings in order [to] improve the customer experience.”

“Employees do not have direct access to information that can identify the person or account as part of this workflow,” and Amazon spokesperson elaborated. “All information is treated with high confidentiality and we use multi-factor authentication to restrict access, service encryption and audits of our control environment to protect it.”

    Workforce

According to the Bloomberg report, it’s a rather substantial number of Amazon employees doing this annotation work. The work, not dissimilar from work in call center, has employees interpreting thousands of snippets a week, annotating them and marking them down for further study.

While Amazon assures customers that there are security safeguards in place to protect privacy, they’ve hardly been forthcoming about the human review process until now. Mistrust of large data-gathering corporations is at an all-time high, so this is a strange look for the massive company. Many consumers are anxious that their conversations are being sold to advertisers, or that their information is otherwise compromised by their own smart speakers.

Jeff Bezos Wife to Get 4% of Amazon in Divorce

MacKenzie Bezos, wife of Amazon owner Jeff Bezos, has announced that her divorce from the billionaire is complete. In the agreement, she’ll be getting a 4% stake in Amazon’s stock. That staggering number makes her one of the richest people on the planet, bringing her net worth to around $35 billion.

    The Divorce

Amazon’s stock has fluctuated slightly since the divorce filing became public. However, the announcement of the divorce’s finalization had little impact on Amazon’s stock yesterday.

The Bezos’ divorce came about in part due to scandals involving Jeff Bezos’ affairs with Lauren Sanchez. After the divorce filing in January, the normally private Jeff Bezos had his private life at the center of unfolding scandals. Adding to the chaos, Bezos has also struck out at the National Enquirer over alleged blackmail of photos he sent to Sanchez during his affair.

    National Enquirer Controversy

The controversy erupted when Bezos penned a piece for Medium that alleged he was being blackmailed. The National Enquirer threatened to release nude photos of him if he didn’t end an investigation into how they acquired his texts to Sanchez.

Reports have indicated that Sanchez’ brother, Michael Sanchez, is the one who leaked the messages to the Enquirer. Michael Sanchez has been a longtime source for the tabloid. Sanchez himself has denied being the source of the leaks.

    MacKenzie’s Assets

The 4% share of Amazon that MacKenzie will be taking with her will still have its voting privileges overseen by Jeff. The $35 billion in worth this gives MacKenzie makes her one of the 30 wealthiest people on the planet. Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos maintains his spot as the richest man on Earth, worth a staggering $115 billion.

That puts Jeff Bezos a solid $10 billion higher than Bill Gates, who remains the second wealthiest man on Earth. Surprisingly, Bezos retains this title even after giving up 25% of his shares in Amazon.

  • Amazon Cancels its Planned New York Headquarters

Amazon Cancels its Planned New York Headquarters

Amazon has announced that it is canceling the construction of a New York headquarters. The project was slated to be an “HQ2” and involved a $3 billion incentive package from New York City.

Protestors decried the incentive package and largely resisted the idea of Amazon further straining New York’s infrastructure. Another issue protestors brought against Amazon is their largely non-union workforce.

    Amazon HQ2 Canceled

    Amazon’s Statement

Amazon’s statement says that they had to back down from the project due to pressure from local politicians. Notably, Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, and Bill de Blasio, the mayor, had strong support for the Amazon HQ project.

“After much thought and deliberation, we’ve decided not to move forward with our plans to build a headquarters for Amazon in Long Island City, Queens. For Amazon, the commitment to build a new headquarters requires positive, collaborative relationships with state and local elected officials who will be supportive over the long-term.”

Mark Hamrick, an online bank analyst, had harsh words for those who opposed the Amazon HQ project. “For those who didn’t want Amazon to bring the promised 25,000 new jobs and added economic vitality to the area: Be careful what you wish for.”

    Mounting Pressure

The HQ2 project was abandoned following intense pushback by New Yorkers. Local union supporters and the city council both decried the project as being another example of corporate welfare. The generous incentive package of $3 billion was considered unseemly, given that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is the wealthiest man on Earth.

City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer had words of encouragement for the opposition to the Amazon headquarters. “Defeating an unprecedented act of corporate welfare is a triumph that should change the way we do economic development deals in our city and state forever,” Van Bramer stated.

A statement given on Thursday by Chelsea Connor, head of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, was quite an indictment of Amazon. “Rather than addressing the legitimate concerns that have been raised by many New Yorkers, Amazon says you do it our way or not at all, we will not even consider the concerns of New Yorkers – that’s not what a responsible business would do.”

  • Eero Wi-Fi Routers Acquired by Amazon

Eero Wi-Fi Routers Acquired by Amazon

Amazon announced yesterday that it has acquired mesh-router manufacturer Eero. Eero is a huge name in the world of mesh-network routers, and this move positions Amazon in a strong place for its Echo hardware. Eero is based in the Bay Area, where it has been operating since 2015. While neither company stated how much money the acquisition cost, Eero has previously secured $90 million in venture capital funding.

    Eero Acquired by Amazon

    Amazon’s Statement

Amazon is certainly positioning this new technology to bolster their smart-home business. Amazon’s Senior Vice President of Devices and Services, Dave Limp, issued a public statement regarding the acquisition.

“We are incredibly impressed with the Eero team and how quickly they invented a WiFi solution that makes connected devices just work. We have a shared vision that the smart home experience can get even easier, and we’re committed to continue innovating on behalf of customers.”

If there was any doubt that this move was to shore up Amazon’s smart home devices, Limp’s statement should dispel it. This mesh router tech will allow for tighter communication between Echo devices and more robust connectivity.

    Eero’s Statement

Nick Weaver, the chief of Eero, issued a statement following the acquisition’s news breaking.

“From the beginning, Eero’s mission has been to make the technology in homes just work. We started with WiFi because it’s the foundation of the modern home. Every customer deserves reliable and secure WiFi in every room. By joining the Amazon family, we’re excited to learn from and work closely with a team that is defining the future of the home, accelerate our mission, and bring Eero systems to more customers around the globe.”

This acquisition’s news comes amid a tumultuous time for Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. At time of writing, Bezos is embroiled in a battle with the National Enquirer and its parent company over alleged blackmail.
