Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past two years, you’ve likely heard about, seen, or experienced ridesharing apps.

uber vs lyft

While ridesharing has been around for quite some time, it has just recently exploded, and is really catching on worldwide. The ridesharing revolution began harmlessly enough but has quickly become an essential tool for many to commute to work or school, get home from a night out or simply run errands.  Today, the question of choosing Uber vs. Lyft is a debate many face each time they need a ride. To properly compare the two ridesharing apps, we’ll evaluate each based on 4 categories :

  • Pricing

  • The App/Booking a Ride

  • Coverage Areas

  • Vehicle Types/Options

Pricing

Uber and Lyft compete heavily on pricing, attempting to lure customers away from each other by constantly offering lower prices than the other.  A more in-depth look at the actual pricing we find that for the most part, the companies charge about the same prices, although prices can vary from city to city.

uber vs lyft

Another pricing factor to consider is surge pricing when there is a very high demand for transportation.

Both companies use some form of price surging – meaning fare prices are raised when rider demand is greater than normal. Uber increases their price about 7X or 8X what the original price would have been, while Lyft tends to increase their prices 2X.

Since both companies charge about the same on a normal day, most use whichever service is closer and can pick them up first. During times of high demand riders tend to get better pricing when they use Lyft.

Winner: Lyft

Lyft has a cleaner record vis a vis screening drivers and being fair to drivers. That makes it easy for me.

I was a Lyft and Uber driver….I no longer drive for Lyft. Lyft cheated me out of almost $200 on one ride. I have never been mistreated by Uber. Makes it even easier for me.

Lyft is trash they offer 50$ off when u sign up as first time rider but could only use 5$ credit on each trip then they jack up the trip price when u use the credit so u only save 2$. They try to lure drivers by the 500$ bonus after 100 or 150 trip completed that’s a lie.. Lyft might have stricter regulations on hiring drivers but all around lyars and cheaters. I drive for Uber full time make plenty of money and also ride with uber from time to time never had a problem.

I’ve driven for both for a year. I’ve never seen Uber at 7 or 8X and I’ve seen Lyft at more than 2X plenty of times. That’s just inaccurate. You can’t generalize about prices. You just have to price it out between the two every time you need a ride if you really want the lowest price.

My comments the share rides is the must discussing issues for taxi industry and drivers Because we’re dealing whit in qualified clients people’s whit low back crwonged no respect Heath in car put there’s feeds on my seats all ways ask for musics station and same times driving is very bad clients drivers must stopp pickup Lyft line and Uber pool they’re still collected 20% we must stopped that’s abusing from Lyft and Uber trump administration low the tax rate for big corporations we’re paying high rates between two companies

Bullshit, I am a driver for both and in Cinti. Lyft goes to 5 and 6x occasionally and much more often than Uber goes to 3 and 4x. This looks like an ad sponsored by Lyft

Ride sharing is a way that we are heading towards a modern slavery, cause sooner or later these companies will transfer these services to automatic electric cars and, millions of people will out if work ,so where these people go,every sector these companies are trying to do automatic so we need to avoid them just now ,say no to uber and lyft and use regular transportation like limos and taxi.

Recent Florida school attack ,Cruz used uber car to kill those innocent students ,and over the past years ,so many crimes were conducted via uber and lyft ..

It’s easy to enforce a crime using uber and lyft cause they are not regulated like taxi and Limo and police are not properly trained to watch and monitor uber and lyft cars .

Also pollution is a big factor ,these vehicles are throwig so much carbon in the air ,which will be so harmful and at the end it will cost more money for taxpayers ..

    Solution:
Either we only stick to taxis and limos and public transport or let taxi and limos use the ap and this way there will be a overseer. Police and Inspectors will watch all rides and there will be proper monitoring .

In Tampa, the surge times and locations actually stick around for hours on Lyft, as opposed to Uber, which has become more sporadic in that sense (lasting minutes, if that)

Uber takes too much money from drivers. Uber pool is a joke! Uber gets more money then the driver in most cases!!

Uber is unfair to drivers they take the most of the ride most of the times between service fee and booking fee they make more than what the driver gets in Boston ,my wife takes Uber to work not even .5 miles she pays 6.47 and the driver gets 3.28 I tried it my self she called for a ride and I was waiting I get called in for pick up and that’s what I got paid 3.28 verses 6.47

Wrong, Uber is now much better than Lyft. I drive for both. They use to be almost dead on each other with Uber slightly better in that the minutes to pick up are much shorter and Uber doesn’t threaten to deactivate or suspend your access if you fail to accept that 35 mins. to the pickup like Lyft does. Lyft acts like a mafia thug threatening to break your leg if you don’t do what they say. “Either walk over there when we tell you to walk over there or we will break your legs and you won’t be able to walk at all.” Uber has just gotten more bad press because there are way more Uber drivers to pitch a fit. Believe me Lyft is way worse and they are stupid and it looks like they’re going to fail. Here in Cincinnati their flailing about they’re hurting for drivers while Uber is stacked with drivers lift surges are way higher and more often. Last weekend while Uber was surging at 1.7 x lyft was at 600% which is a 7X. And lift is continually surging way higher than Uber, as matter fact it’s hard to find a uber surges during week even when the bars close. Lyft is surging all the time.

While I think Lyft is more thorough in screening drivers, as a driver I find their app much more difficult to navigate (and I have driven both.)

Lyft meets their drivers and gets in the car for a drive. Uber has never met me and I been driving for both for 4 plus years. Lyft is more driver friendly where Uber is more rider friendly, but Uber is slowly changing that.
