Apple Privacy Website with All of Your Data
Apple doesn’t know me, they only think they do. That’s what Id like to think anyhow, but now I can know what they think they know. Now Apple is the latest tech giant to make changes to comply with GDPR, the EU’s privacy data rules, after it introduced a new website that shows customers exactly what personal data it holds on them. Apple has today launched its new Apple Privacy Website , allowing Apple users to download everything that Apple personally associates with your account, from Apple ID info, App Store activity, AppleCare history to data stored in iCloud like photos and documents. This is currently only available for European Union accounts, to comply with GDPR, and will roll out worldwide in the coming months.

How To Access The Apple Privacy Website

This link to get to Apples Privacy and Data link is here: https://privacy.apple.com/. Just login in with your apple ID. There are simple shortcuts to updating your info, temporarily deactivating your account and options to permanently delete it. Here’s how to do it …You can request account details and sign-in records and data such as contacts, calendars, notes, bookmarks, reminders, photos and documents.
1. Go to Apple’s new Data and Privacy website;
2. Log in with your Apple ID. (for now, the privacy info and downloads work only for users in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland);
3. Click on the “Get started” link below the header “Obtain a copy of your data,” and check “Select all,” or tick the individual options boxes;
4. Select a maximum file size, and Apple will split things into the chunks you choose;
5. If you want a copy of your iCloud-stored media, e-mails, or Drive content, the process will obviously take longer, but Apple says the gathering can take up to two weeks anyway;
6. When everything is ready, you will get a mail from Apple that your personal data is ready to download, and if you don’t do it, Apple will erase everything in two weeks.
Things To Consider

Dependent on the data records selected, Apple may take as long as two weeks to assemble the information. While the company did say the data will be deleted after two weeks. The data site also gives users the option to correct data, deactivate their account and delete all information held by Apple in compliance with GDPR. Only data that is personally identifiable can be found here. I think this can all be downloaded with a few simple clicks on the privacy portal. Note data like iCloud Photos will take a long time to generate. There are potentially tens of gigabytes of files on there.

The Final Thought

Just imagine if your bank, credit card company, ISP, or big-box retailer gave you the right to look at your data! It’d be a different world. George Michael, I mean Maharris promised us this a few years ago with his FaceBlock app. I wonder what happened to that. What we really need is transparency and openness and there’s nothing to fear in providing this to users. It need not be forced through regulation, but standard basic practice from the outset. Tech Throwback: The T-Mobile Sidekick

I like to take a look at where I’ve been to evaluate where Im going. Technology is cyclical after all… wait no its not. That said I still like all the feels that come rushing back like a flood of nostalgia every time I get my hand on the tech I grew up with. Im going to go back periodically and take a looking at the stuff that used to blow our hair back and get our minds rolling. Some of these device blew up and changed the world, some where ahead of their time and some just fell flat and became colossal failures. Today I’ve got my hands on the T-Mobile Sidekick

The Danger Hiptop, also re-branded as the T-Mobile Sidekick, Mobiflip and Sharp Jump is a GPRS/EDGE/UMTS smartphone produced by Danger Incorporated from 2002 to 2010. Released on October 1, 2002, the original Hiptop was unique compared to all other hardware versions. All the units, from the beginning, have featured “Menu”, “Back”, “Jump” and other keys accessible even when the unit was closed. The Hiptop also featured a speaker which is used for device sounds but not telephone. Along the top edge of the phone bezel is an infrared transceiver. The headset jack serves a dual purpose, as it is also used for the accessory camera. A later revision of the Hiptop upgraded its screen from a monochrome LCD to a color LCD viewable with or without the backlight on

Powering Back Up the T-mobile Sidekick

Like I like to do I purchased one of the original T-mobile Sidekick. First thing I notice is how thick it is. It is girthy to say the least, its like holding 3 iPhones. The flip screen is still snappy. This was a one of a kind phone, no one else even mocked it. The spinning rotating screen is still unique with its 180 degree flip to reveal the key board. The keyboard is nice and very well spaced out. For text messaging this phone was way ahead of its time and is still probably the best and most efficient SMS device.

This phone is the original basic smartphone. It has still an advanced for the time but basic phone OS. The best way to describe it is to say its very PDAish but with a killer keyboard. The picture quality, let talk about it, its rubbish. black and white and grainy. Im actually terrified that some hipster will find one of these and turn it in to the next hipster camera trend. Posting terrible pictures is just the kind of thing that is up their ally.

The Final Thought

I never had the Sidekick, it was a T-mobile exclusive and I was a Cingular guy. This was the most experience I had with the sidekick. I can say it is interesting, fun, quirky, qwerty and perfect for its time. Its success was limited to the T-mobile network which was not great. Many other instances of the T-mobile Sidekick was released in subsequent years, some of them didn’t even kick out. The last thing Ill say about this device is just like its most famous users, Hanna Montana and Paris Hilton, it belongs in 2003. Lets leave it right there.

Top 5 Battle Royale Games on iOS

They are taking over the app store as the next big thing in mobile gaming. They are fun, chaotic, and extremely intense. As with any big gaming trend in the app store once something hits big with popularity the market gets flooded with knock offs and wanna-bes’. So here is a look at the Top 5 battle royale games. I think you know 1 and 2 already. All of them are the same premise 100 players are scattered throughout the massive battlefield. Explore the map, collect weapons, take aim, and pull the trigger.

1 PUBG

This is the tops, the alpha, the best PVP royale there is. Though it was not first, fortnite was, PUBG was up and going first and once it was there was no stopping it. The game is based on previous mods that were created by Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene for other games using the film Battle Royale for inspiration, and expanded into a standalone game under Greene’s creative direction. 2. Fortnite

Fortnite has recently taking over the top spot in the app store over PUBG in the PVP royale battles. However it is still no. 2 in free games below “love balls”. There is a lot of aspects to this game that should make it number 1 on this list. It’s got way better animation and looks like a lot more fun. It partakes in the unreality of fantasy a bit more for more entertainment. The guns… Did I mention how cool the guns are. Think Ratchet and Klank like guns. You can build structures to defend yourself. Its a lot more immersive and lacks the quick please and excitement of PUBGs simple killem PVP.

3.Knives out

This is the big one in japan. So big in Japan that they raked in 24 million from mobile users last month. This game has the potential to top those Battle Royale game one day. I love most of the features included such as Top kills, Farthest Travel etc. It makes me wanna compete with my friends. Bugs, it has them like Sometimes, shooting during scoping doesnt calibrate well with the aiming. It drops a bit bottom-right. It is also very laggy and has glitches like when I walk it teleports me back to where I was. Sometimes I’ll tap the Trigger and it’ll shoot a half a clip without my finger touching the screen.

4. Rules of Survival

This one lets you have up to three hundred players fight in a battle royale, a type of large-scale last man standing deathmatch where players fight to remain the last alive. Players can choose to enter the match Solo, Duo, a Squad of four people, or a Fireteam of up to five people. In either case, the last person or team left alive wins the match. There are two playable maps in the game: Ghillie (120 players), and the 64 square kilometer Fearless Fiord (300 players)

5.Critical Ops

Just like the rest of list you can pair up with friends or take on complete strangers all over the world. With A 100 player Vs player format and all the trends that have it landing on this list. This one has some very smooth gameplay. All animations are very smooth. Great variety on the skins. Weapons are unique and pretty fantastic. On the positives it’s a fast-paced mobile FPS reminiscent of CS:GO. What has it moving down the list is that there a pretty noticeable latency issues (lag) and very sparse content.

GoodBye 14 inch Razer Blade, Hello 15.6 inch
Razer is the hipster king of gaming laptops. For the last 5 years the 14 inch Razer Blade has been the cornerstone of their lineup. That is all going to change now. No longer will Razer be offering the 14 inch super laptop. Instead they will be offering a suped up version in a slimmer 15.6 inch model. Razer is calling it the smallest gaming system in its class. Its packed with an excruciating amount off cool stuff lets take a look.

Design

For starters Razer got rid of the rounded curves of the previous laptops for a more boxy shape. The company also ditched the pair of lines flanking the glowing green Razer emblem. Its a bit more classy look in my opinion. Measuring 14 x 9.3 x 0.68-inches and weighing 4.6 pounds, the Blade is notably larger than its predecessor (4.2 pounds and 13.6 x 9.3 x 0.7 inches). But it’s also slimmer and lighter than a lot of its current competition. As Razer said it, its the smallest gaming system available. Ports, its got em, you can expect a trio of USB 3.1 ports, a Thunderbolt 3 port, mini DisplayPort, HDMI 2.0, a headset jack and a power input.

The Display

This is were its gets cool. The 14-inch variant of the Blade is gone and with it goes those unsightly thick bezels. Razer has shaved the bezels down to 0.19 inches along the sides, allowing the company to squeeze a 15.6-inch panel into a 14-inch chassis. More screen less size for the win. The Razer Blade is available with several screen variants and refresh rates: Full HD with 60Hz, Full HD with 144Hz and a 4K touch panel with 60Hz. The 144Hz, 1080p screen and 4K panels will be individually color calibrated from stock.

The Razer Blade Extras

Of course Razer is gonna back this with there G-ed out Chroma keyboard and killer trackpad. That is just a given. Razer is swapping out the two discrete mouse buttons in favor of a massive precision touchpad. The new touchpad should deliver more accurate gestures and swipes. With the bigger chassis we are getting a bigger battery too. Bonus.

Helsinki to Lead the Way For AI Education with Free Class

Helsinki University in Finland has launched a course on artificial intelligence — one that’s completely free and open to everyone around the world. A lot of tech giants like Google now have divisions working on artificial intelligence projects, and even whole non-tech industries already depend on AI for various tasks. Its scary to think how much we already depend on AI and what it will entail in the future. Its best to jump ahead of the curve on this, especially you youngsters. Parent enroll your teens in this class for the summer.

More Details on Helsinki’s Free AI Class

Helsinki’s course focuses on the basics, starting with defining what AI is and explaining how it can solve problems. It is more of a beginner course. The fist part of the materials is a discussion on how we use AI already in the real world. In the second part of the course, they explain how machine learning works and what neural networks are. It will apparently take you about 30 hours to complete the course. Students in Finland can even earn academic credits through the Open University.

For us Americans, you can enroll in the course outside Finland. You will have an option to receive a certificate that can be posted on the Linkedin page. Everyone who completes the course will also get a certificate (PDF) emailed to them. You have an option to do the course at your own pace, but they recommend trying to finish in 6 week. According to their understanding, having a deadline makes it more likely that students will finish the course.

The Final Thought

This is the big growth sector right now and will be even more in the future. Helsinki University hopes that one percent of the Finnish population – some 54,000 people – will take the online course this year. So far 24,000 have signed up and that is alot. If you think about that number and the magnitude in which AI will dominate our next half century. Finland will be the worlds new super power. It could and probably will be the first nation to fall to Elon Musk’s prophecy of the Immortal AI dictator. The US needs to invest heavily in the next generation of programmers now and have them lead the curve on AI.

5 Tech Misconceptions People Adamantly Believe

I’ve done a lot of troubleshooting, fielded a lot of tech questions and generally helped a lot of people with their IT issues. I am the go to tech guy for a large number of people. I’m that nephew that installed AOL on your first computer, you know who I’m talking about. I’ve heard and seen a lot of obscure,obscure and down right wrong practices in tech. Here are 5 general tech misconceptions the less techy crowd still think are good savvy ideas.

1.I Heard, If I Remove the Battery From my Laptop When it’s Plugged in it Will Extend my Batteries Life.

Wrong. Laptop batteries vary in their composition but they are all chemical based. Meaning, the atoms inside a given battery are manipulated to produce electrons and the chemicals in the reaction (oxidize) and decay over time. Something a bit similar happens in our own bodies and why anti-oxidants help us live longer. Energy has a price; but these reactions occur whether a battery is in use or sitting on a shelf.

Try it this way, who ages better the person that stays active and exercises daily or the tech blogger sitting at his computer all day not moving? The stationary blogger will age much quicker.

2. All I know is Closing Unused Apps on Your iPhone will Make it Faster.

Again Wrong. If you own an iPhone, you’ve probably heard the myth that closing down all of your open iOS apps will save battery life And free up memory to run faster.

It’s a great way to shutdown a malfunctioning or crashed app. But the myth that it’ll help to eke-out a few more hours battery life is completely false.

Not only is force quitting your apps in this manner unnecessary, it’s actually detrimental. Apps in the background are effectively “frozen”, severely limiting what they can do in the background and freeing up the RAM they were using. iOS is really, really good at this.is so good at this that unfreezing a frozen app takes up way less CPU (and energy) than relaunching an app that had been force quit. Not only does force quitting your apps not help, it actually hurts. So in short if it’s not malfunctioning don’t worry about it.

3. No, Don’t Charge your Phone Battry till It’s at Zero

The idea that you should always completely discharge a battery before charging it up again has legitimate origins, but it doesn’t apply to current technology. Years ago, when nickel–metal hydride (NiMH) and nickel-cadmium (NiCad) batteries were common, they suffered from an issue called battry memory: Unless the battery was completely spent before being recharged, it would “remember” how much power it had used and only charge back up that amount. If done repeatedly over time, the battery would never charge totally again.

The lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery that’s probably in your phone or laptop right now doesn’t suffer from this issue. They have a limited number of charge “cycles”before batteries start to hold less overall power. Ideally charge your devices from time to time before they fully die.

4.The Updates are just a way to make my phone Crash so I have to get a new one

Just before the latest and greatest phone comes out, your phone suddenly starts running slowly. Maybe it starts freezing, or the apps you use get sluggish. Either way, if you can relate, you can probably also understand the common feeling that this is all a plan by tech companies to force you into upgrading.False

Its a common Tech misconceptions, It’s not some corporate trick to force you into the newest tech, or trap you on the consumerist treadmill. As those new phones are released, they come with more memory, better screens, faster processors. Then developers start building their apps around them. When they do, they optimize their apps for the newer devices. So as apps are updated to make use of all of the features on those new devices, they seem to slow down on older phones.

5. Karen Told me, off-brand ink cartridges voids the warranty on your printer

Knock it off Karen. Untrue. Branded ink cartridges are expensive so people often use off-brand cartridges to keep their printing costs down. Fortunately, despite the myth, There is no chance of voiding any warranty on your printer by using off brand cartridges. But then again, third-party tampering isn’t covered in the event of gunshot wounds to your printer either. Most all the problems that printers are likely to have are still covered just fine under the warranty.

It looks magnificent sitting on a table top with a lighting band proving to be a striking contrast against its full metal, black body. It is equipped with a brilliant and fast working processor. The Radeon Rx graphics card ensures that the graphics you view on your screen are always impeccable. One of its greatest features the way it is engineered. You can twist and turn and remove storage whenever you do not need it, and fix the module back on whenever you do need it.

The Sound And Design

Harman Kardon 360 degree Speakers are the best part about the Samsung ArtPC. They are crisp clean and booming. I’ve always found sound quality lacking in computers and it’s nice to see Samsung up the game. This shows that PC manufacturers are teaming up with the best sound system providers to give users good audio systems alongside powerful PCs

The design is fairly minimal in design and measures 5.51 x 5.51 x 12.18 inches (13.9 x 13.9 x 30.9 cm) and uses the single central fan concept. It’s pretty but it’s not as stunningly elegant as the Mac Pro.

There is one more interesting and innovative design of the Samsung ArtPC PULSE. This Computer allows you to attach and detach more storage whenever you need. Position the HDD unit and spin to click and easily add more storage. Think easily stackable hard drives. Kinda cool.

Motorola Razr V4 the Future of Fordable Smartphones

No this isn’t a tech throwback on the Motorola V3 Razr, comeback Wednesday for that. This is a new Motorola V4 Razr. We have a concept model from Motorola and that they are currently working on a folding phone, and all signs point to the fact that it could carry the iconic Motorola Razr branding. Back in February 2017, Yang Yuanqing, the CEO of Lenovo (which owns the Motorola brand) noted.

“With the new technology, particularly foldable screens, I think you will see more and more innovation on our smartphone design. So hopefully what you just described [the Motorola Razr brand] will be developed or released very soon”.

So that alone is very promising, but we are now at the point were some details are emerging.

Motorola Razr V4 Concept

The Motorola Razr V4 remained very slim when folded reaching 7.5mm and unfolded reaching only 3.7mm. Meanwhile, the device is good enough to give under-display fingerprint scanner available. Notably, Motorola handset features Android Oreo 8.1 out-of-the-box based on Intelligent UI and IP68 certified water/dust resistant.

From our anonymous source we have a first hand account. “When opened up, the Moto Razr V4 has a 7 inch AMOLED HDR 10 screen, a Snapdragon 855 CPU and a hinge, that feels like it prequels a Surface Phone or Samsung Galaxy X. Crazy enough, this ultra slim device is just 3.7 mm in thickness, when it’s opened up. Folded it reaches 7.5 mm. It feels like Tech Configurations really thought it out this time around,”

The Spec Rumors

The Motorola handset will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 CPU, on the contray to the original infomation we got back in 2017. The handset performance works well on 6GB of RAM and two storage variants including 128GB/256GB ROM (unexpandable). Also, Motorola RAZR V4 camera packs dual 16MP+12MP primary snapper with 4K videos recording ability. Besides, there is a 12MP selfie shooter with a wide-angle lens and an aperture of f/1.8. Further, Motorola phone gets 4100mAh battery.

At the moment, there is no further information regarding Motorola RAZR V4 price and availability. However, we can expect to meet this legend with the new outlook this June with the price range approximately of $500.

Ive always been a big fan of the Motorola V3 Razr and the jump in made in the cellular industry. I was also among the very first non Motorola employees to have one. I won a sales contest for Motorola 6 months prior to the release. The initial specs looks on point and these pictures are lighting me up. Beau’s Number 1 App Review: Fortnite

Beau’s App series. Each week, I install whatever is the No. 1 bestselling app on the iOS or Android store and review it, to save you the effort in case it’s total waste of life. This week a game called Fortnite is not in the top spot but Im taking it on anyways. How did it get to No. 1? it didn’t, its number 2. Love Balls has been holding strong for over 3 weeks now.. Also because it’s free, because it just came out for phones, and because it’s already crazy popular console game.

Fortnite is the latest battle royale style game that is taking the world by storm. Developed by Epic Games, the people behind Unreal Tournament (and the Unreal Engine), the game takes the battle royale format that is made popular by PUBG and brings it to everyone by being free to play everywhere. Today, we are taking a look at the mobile version, which although launched before the mobile version of PUBG, was invite-only for a while.

The battle royale version is similar to PUBG, you know all about PUBG from the last Beau’s Number 1 App Review. 100 players compete on one island to be the last man standing. During the course of the game, players have to survive by scavenging items such as weapons and health packs, and killing others before being killed themselves. The area of the island is constantly shrinking as time goes on to encourage confrontation and avoid camping. The last person to survive wins the game.

Some Cool Fortnite Features

Fortnite actually supports cross-platform multiplayer gaming across iOS, PS4, PC and Mac. There is also a function over PUBG that allows you to build objects with wood, metal and brick you collect through the game. They also have a much varied wepon and character spectrum. Thanos and the infinity gauntlet where recently added as a feature weapon. So think of this as PUBG with Minecraft and a touch of Ratchet and Clank.

iOS Functionality

Fortnite runs great on iPhone, delivering the same experience we’ve seen on PC and consoles. Touch controls work fine, but the weapons you usually pick-up during the matches don’t fit well with the manual fire approach. Fortnite definitely functions on mobile, although players will have to refine their tactics and become deft with virtual controls that often work against them in the heat of battle. But it looks nice, it’s fun, it’s graphically stable and, if you’re signed into a regular Epic account, XP is shared across PC, mobile and console – so if you’re playing on the train or during your lunch break at work, you’re leveling up for when you get home. You see, it’s productive.

The Final Thought

Its a really great game, very exciting and fun. There is a lot more too this game but it isn’t quite as intense as PUBG. I prefer PUBG although it has been dethroned as the top battle royale game in the app store.
