Red Dead Redemption 2 Multiplayer — How to Get in the Beta

The Red Dead Redemption 2 multiplayer beta is live now! How can you get in on the Wild-West action? Today we’ll tell you how you can join in the fun and what to expect. It’s time to get back on the horse and ride off into the sunset for an awesome adventure.

    How to Join

The RDR2 multiplayer beta is live today, November 26th. If you bought the Ultimate Edition of the game you’re able to jump in to the wild multiplayer now. If you don’t have the Ultimate Edition, don’t stress! Those who played the game on launch day can jump into the action starting tomorrow.

If you played the game before October 29th you’ll be allowed into the beta starting on November 29th. For everyone else, you can join the beta starting on November 30th. That means everyone will be able to gunsling and gamble in the Wild West by the end of November.

    Why the Slow Roll-Out?

Rockstar had some serious issues with GTA V’s online servers. The launch of that multiplayer was a bit of a mess, with servers overtaxed and failing in a big way. Thankfully they learned from that experience and are planning to keep history from repeating itself.

The slow roll-out of the beta allows Rockstar to keep an eye on the servers as traffic increases naturally. That way there’s less likelihood that the servers simply crash under the weight of the traffic. Considering that RDR2 sold more than 17 million copies there will certainly be some serious traffic to those servers.

    What to Expect

Once you’re able to hop into the beta you can expect some excellent action to keep you entertained for ages. Exploring the huge open world with your friends is sure to be the largest draw. Hunting, fishing, gambling and getting up to no good will be favorite pastimes of players in the open world.

Bank robberies, knocking over trains and holding up rival posses will certainly be popular activities as well. Aside from free-roaming, we expect to see dedicated lobbies for proper modes like deathmatch and team-based game modes.

Not to mention poker, blackjack and other gambling side-games that are sure to make an appearance. We look forward to seeing you there!

  • Monday Movie Review: The Grinch

    Monday Movie Review: The Grinch

Hooray, Its Monday. The Monday after the long holiday weekend. That means like most of you, and the rest of the free world, I got to hit the theaters over the weekend. I like to do this every weekend. I wanted to take a little bit of time to tell you of my experience at the movie,.  Just a minute to shed a little insight and perspective on Hollywood’s latest hit. Seeing a great movie in the theater can be a life altering experience. It can also be an easy way to waste a couple of hours and 30 bucks. My hopes is that with a quick review from this self-proclaim movie connoisseur I can save readers a few hours. Or better yet, possibly change a few more lives. A holiday classic for the holiday weekend. The Grinch

    The Grinch

Universal has tapped long time Kevin Smith movie producer Scott Mosier to adapt a 3D CGI version of the Dr Seuss’s Christmas classic.  The story is about the same. In the outskirts of Whoville, there’s a miserly loner known only as The Grinch (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch). He lives in a cave high up on Mount Crumpit with his inventions and his dog, Max. He only ever sees his Who neighbors when he has to go into town to get himself food. One holiday season, the Grinch catches wind that the Whos plan to make their routine Christmas celebrations three times bigger this year. This is something he can’t tolerate in the slightest. Eventually, he has the ultimate epiphany: to keep the peace and quiet he loves so much, he must become Santa Claus and steal Christmas.

Meanwhile, in the town of Whoville, one particular holiday loving Who, Cindy-Lou Who (voiced by Cameron Seely), just wants to ask Santa Claus for help for her overworked single mom.

    Life Changing 73%

The Grinch” is a very pleasant new reiteration. While it is a safe rendition, it is just retelling of Dr. Seuss’ holiday classic. I do like the additions to the story and little Cindy was even more adorable then she always has been in the past. In this telling, Cindy attempts to “catch” Santa Claus. This adds to the story flowing into the one old tale.

The Grinch is less grumpy and miserable and more of just a hurt soul. He isn’t as mean and actually is very compassionate to the animals, Max the dog and a new friend Fred the reindeer. While still keeping his grinchly attitude towards Christmas and relegated to isolation, he manages to get a few laughs from his inconsiderate behavior towards the Whos.

    Batman?

Where does he get those wonderful toys? I want to believe this is the Mosier touch. The Grinch has a slight air of Batman in this retelling. He is a bit of a  scientist and designs his own gadgets and coffee makers. He throws bat-like Christmas stars to wrap up the trees. Scaling the chimneys with a candy cane grappling hooks, all while a suspiciously familiar Danny Elfman score is  in the background. You can see what Mos did here and I like it.

    The Final Thought

There was a lot to like in this movie. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to hear the Whos sing my all time favorite Christmas song, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Yes, I like the movie quite a bit, and I didn’t  mind the Grinch being retold. Its a wonderful story with a much needed message…..The true meaning of Christmas.  I gave it a 73%, but to all of us that grew up with the Grinch, “perhaps it means a little bit more”.  In the end, The Grinch is merely a safe, easy way to keep the IP active and a guaranteed million dollar blockbuster cash grab.

  • Nintendo President Shuts Down N64 Classic Rumors

Nintendo President Shuts Down N64 Classic Rumors

With the monumental success of the SNES Classic and NES Classic, the N64 Classic looked like a sure thing. However, in a recent interview, Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America President, shut down any hopes of the system coming any time soon. Why is Nintendo not pushing forward with this surefire idea?

    N64 Classic Rumors Shut Down

Reggie Fils-Aime stated that while he “would not ever rule something out… what I can tell you is certainly that’s not in our planning horizon.” The Nintendo exec continued, “We were clear when we did the first two Classic series that, for us, these were limited-time opportunities that were a way for us as a business to bridge from the conclusion of Wii U as a hardware system to the launch of Nintendo Switch.”

“That was the very strategic reason we launched the NES Classic system,” Fils-Aime clarified. The president went on to clarify that the company understood that people were excited to engage with older Nintendo games. Fils-Aime stated that Nintendo plans to continue supporting its legacy content through the Nintendo Online subscription service.

    Nintendo Online

The subscription service, which is around $20 per year, is a service for the Nintendo Switch. It is required to play games like Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 online. It also comes with a selection of NES titles that are updated with a few new entries each month. Currently the only games available through the service are NES games that are roughly 30 years old.

At time of writing, there is no way to play other legacy content on the Switch. Fils-Aime indicated that fans of retro Nintendo games would see that type of content through the online service. However, the Virtual Console, the emulation offered on systems like the Wii, has yet to come to Switch. In the meantime, Nintendo fans must simply patiently wait to see when Nintendo will roll out anything other than 30-year-old games to the system.

For context, it took Nintendo until the tail end of the Wii U’s 5-year lifespan to begin rolling N64 game out. We hope that this situation doesn’t repeat itself with the Switch.

The PS4 is likely nearing the end of its life-cycle, but that doesn’t mean it’s out of surprises yet. Spider-Man is the latest in a long string of excellent AAA exclusives Sony has been releasing, and we don’t expect that momentum to slow any time soon.

The Nintendo Switch has been on the market for nearly two years now and it’s showing no signs of stopping. This little hybrid console has reignited interest in Nintendo as a whole, making huge waves in the gaming industry. Last year the system was too new for Black Friday sales, but this year it’ll be discounted.

  • Best Details you Missed in Red Dead Redemption 2

Best Details you Missed in Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 has been out for a few weeks now and has made some huge waves in the gaming world. This deep, engrossing Wild West adventure may be one of the best video games ever made. Odds are you’ve missed a few awesome details from this huge world, so here are just a few of the best details you missed in RDR 2. Warning: mild spoilers await!

Details you Missed in Red Dead Redemption 2

    rdr2
    Rockstar Games

    Gun Detail

While this is a slower-paced game, especially by AAA standards, a huge emphasis is still given to action and shooting. What you may have missed are great little details about guns and shooting. For instance, when you use a revolver, when you hit the right trigger to fire, Arthur has to pull the hammer back before he lets a bullet rip. You can manually rock the hammer back with a half-press of the trigger. Similarly, after firing a rifle, you have to load a new shell in before firing again.

Other little details, like engravings and wood grain, as highlighted in gunsmiths as customization options. It’s still neat to see Arthur cleaning the dirt off of his guns when you manually maintain them, though.

    Animal Decomposition

If you kill a wild animal in this game and leave it on the side of the road, it will slowly decompose. When you return to the area after a few in-game days, you may see a deteriorating body. After a few more days, you might find nothing more than a pile of bones. The same goes for when you carry a slain beast back into town on your horse. If you tarry for too many days, it’ll fetch a lower price as it decomposes.

    Arthur’s Well-Being

If you skip sleep and eat infrequently, Arthur will begin to look haggard. You’ve likely noticed that your avatar’s hair and beard grow at a natural rate, and you can style his hair unless you grow it out long enough. Similarly, if you overeat and don’t get enough exercise, you’ll see Arthur begin to put on weight.

The same, interestingly, goes for your horse! If you give your companion too many treats, it’ll get fat and become slower on the open road. Keep that in mind while you’re adventuring!

  • Gotta Play ‘Em All? Pokémon Let’s Go Review

Gotta Play ‘Em All? Pokémon Let’s Go Review

It’s been quite some time since a major Pokémon release came to home consoles. The latest Pokémon main series entry, Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee, have arrived for Nintendo Switch. Are these more casual-focused entries worth their price tag, or are they just pandering to the Pokémon Go craze?

    Pokémon Let’s Go Review

    pokemon-lets-go
    Nintendo

    Graphics

As much as some people will tell you graphics don’t matter, they really do. These are video games after all, and the visual element is the most striking. The Let’s Go games look absolutely wonderful on the Nintendo Switch. Brightly-colored, well-drawn models navigate sleek landscapes and the titular Pocket Monsters look better than ever. Battles are bright and frenetic, with strong moves having a ton of flashy on-screen effects.

Of special note are the wonderful little sprites that indicate your Pokémon in menus and at the Pokémon center. The series’ iconic sprites would have been sorely missed, so it’s nice to see them making an appearance this time out.

    Gameplay

The major sticking point for some long-time veteran trainers is the updated gameplay of this new entry. The traditional random encounters with wild Pokémon are gone, as are battles with them. Instead, you see wild critters on the overworld screen and can choose to encounter them. When you do, you play a Pokémon Go-style minigame where you throw a ball and try to catch the creature.

This is a fun, if gimmicky, mechanic. While the ball-throwing with motion controls is very unreliable, it feels fine in handheld mode with normal controls. That said, we’re hoping future releases ditch the ball-throwing mechanic and bring back wild battles. We’re okay with the Pokémon being on the overworld screen, though. Random encounters should stay out of modern RPGs in our opinion.

Trainer battles are the same as in core games in the series, with the exception of some deeper mechanics from past entries. In all, this version is heavily simplified. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, making this a great jumping-on point for newcomers.

    Bottom Line

The bottom line is that Pokémon fans the world over and going to love this game. It’s a bit simplified and the series still has a long way to go in terms of tightening the core gameplay. The gorgeous presentation and nostalgic music make this one worth checking out, though, so we can recommend it to even passing fans of the franchise. Now, get out there and capture some cute creatures!

  • FaceBook Portal and The New Video Calling

FaceBook Portal and The New Video Calling

Facebook has something it wants in every home to be always on, always watching always listening. Its called FaceBook Portal. The FaceBook Portal devices are video-calling machines that people can use to talk through a screen to other Facebook users. They have a 12-megapixel camera with high-definition video and artificial intelligence software; the camera follows people about as they move around. It’s a 10 inch screen that lets you make video calls to other Facebook users while being able to move and talk freely with a smart camera and smart sound.

    Smart Camera

What do they mean by smart camera? This is automatic framing, which Facebook calls “Smart Camera,” makes every video call more comfortable to participate in. The 12-megapixel camera can do 5x zoom and capture movement within a 140-degree range. The four-mic array flanks the lens on either side, doing double duty of listening to commands and noise canceling during chats. I don’t have a great reason why but its placement reminds me of the eye above the pyramid on the back of a dollar bill.

The Facebook Portal is Alexa enabled. To trigger the function, say “Hey Portal” and then “call [enter name here].” Simple enough. Though the actual “Hey Portal” features are essentially limited to things like making calls and putting the unit to sleep.

The FaceBook Portal Setup and Use

Setting up my Portal Plus was easy. Popped the thing out of the box, plopped it on my desk, plugged it in, connected to Wi-Fi and my Facebook account. I was frankly blown away by how well-designed Portal was. It has one purpose — calling other people who use Facebook. Surprisingly it does that extremely well. But Who still uses Facebook?

The great thing about these devices is that they are stationary and always on. It uses software to follow you around a room, always keeping the speaker in frame and cropped. I found this very useful. I expected it to be chintzy because it’s the company’s first piece of hardware. But shockingly, it wasn’t. The screen is huge on my Portal Plus. Imagine putting an iPad Pro on a tall vertical sound bar and adding an always-on camera in my home, connected to Facebook, all the time, 24 hours a day. I know Facebook has been working to improve how users can manage their private data on the platform. But Still.

    The Final Thought

They took all the pieces that are available, condensed them and perfected the Video Calling. If Facebook was more trustworthy in the public’s eyes and Video calling wasn’t such an invasion of privacy to begin with , There could be one in every home. There won’t be.

  • Top 5 Video Chat Services

    Top 5 Video Chat Services

For years we were promised video chat in every movie and tv show that took place in the future. The Jetsons did it, Back to the Future did it. I grew up assuming it was weeks away from reality my whole life. Then one glorious day in 2010, Steve Jobs said the word Facetime and video chat was a everyday reality.

Video chat is the best way to connect and call your friends, family and loved ones. Allowing you to instantly share special moments in real time. Since 2010 the market flooded with video chat options. With so many options which is the best? Ill figure this out, so you can tell which setup is right for you. From smartphones and tablets to laptops and TVs, there are plenty of ways to get you up and running, and here are five of the best.

    FaceTime

Apples proprietary video telephony system. FaceTime is available on supported iOS mobile devices and Macintosh computers. FaceTime supports any iOS device with a forward-facing camera and any Macintosh computer equipped with a FaceTime Camera. Apple bought the “FaceTime” name from FaceTime Communications. CEO Steve Jobs announced FaceTime on June 7, 2010 in conjunction with the iPhone 4 in a keynote speech at the 2010 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. Support for the fourth generation iPod Touch (the first model of iPod Touch equipped with cameras) was announced in conjunction with the device’s release on September 8, 2010. Just like that everyone had video chat in a matter of days.

if you have an iPad then the FaceTime app will already be installed ready for you to start using. From within there you can find contacts that are also using Apple hardware, and then it’s a simple as tapping the video icon and the app will make a call to them. It is the standard for video chat apps, The app that all other video chat apps are judged and found wanting.

    WhatsApp

A far underestimated and often overlooked, WhatsApp is a real player in the video chat game. It is the default backup to facetime for global use. WhatsApp Messenger is a freeware and cross-platform messaging and Voice over IP service owned by Facebook. The Nice thing about Whatsapp is it is universal, and will work on almost any device anywhere in the world.

    Google Hangouts

Yes, of course Google has its own option too – and it is called Hangouts. This allows for calls and video chat from within a browser on your laptop or PC, so anyone else with Hangouts on a computer, phone or tablet can be contacted. Hangouts lets you have multiple callers in one video chat too, intelligently spotting who’s talking and making that video the main one on screen. The app also allows for messaging so you can share photos but also allows for screen sharing. Lot of great features with Hangouts you don’t get in other apps.

    Skype

Skype is a web-based communications tool that offers video chat, international calls, and texting via the web. This is very popular for its free video chat and communications capabilities, which are very basic at best. As a business communications tool, Skype is branded as the best and most inexpensive solutions provider for VoIP services. For those who want to fully maximize its potential and use it to improve productivity and drive revenue up, there is an enterprise pricing package for business communication that costs only $2 per user per month. With one simple platform, Skype for Business offers features like, Online meetings for up to 250 people and Secure communication lines via strong authentication and encryption.

    Facebook Portal and Video Chat

Something new you probably didn’t know about. Facebook is launching its own device for video chat. Portal is aimed at connecting you to family and friends through video chat. The idea is that, instead of holding your phone up to your face for a jerky visual conversation with grandma and grandpa, you get a beautiful mini-TV, with a 10-inch screen.

While not just a video chat service, Facebook’s Portal smart screen does more than just make calls. You can use it to watch videos, play games and find out the local weather, or help you tell children’s stories. Think an Alexa tablet powered and connected by Facebook.

    Pied Piper PiperChat

A revolutionary middle-out compression was the missing piece in the video chat software world. PiperChat is similar to Google Hangout, FaceTime, and Skype. It is a video chat app that uses Pied Piper’s compression software. Piperchat is the most comprehensive and best video chatting application ever to be seen, using the same middle out compression algorithm as pied piper inc, piper chat can stream flawless 1080p video calling with only just a mere 3g signal.

  • Tech Throwback: The LaserDisc

    Tech Throwback: The LaserDisc

I like to take a look at where I’ve been to evaluate where Im going. Technology is cyclical after all… wait no its not. That said I still like all the feels that come rushing back like a flood of nostalgia every time I get my hand on the tech I grew up with. I’m going to go back periodically and take a looking at the stuff that used to blow our hair back and get our minds rolling. Some of these device blew up and changed the world, some where ahead of their time and some just fell flat and became colossal failures. Today’s throwback is a failure and a bomb, but has one redeeming quality that makes it invaluable.. Today we are talking about the LaserDisc

    LaserDisc History

LaserDisc (originally a trademarked term invented by Pioneer Electronics) is an optical recording medium primarily used for video recordings. In fact it was the first optical recording device to be made publicly available. The technology first began development in the late 50’s; however, it didn’t debut until 1978. The disc resembled a Compact Disc the size of a vinyl record album. The similar appearance is because it was a precursor to CD.

The format originally didn’t have a proper name. It was called many different things, but was first marketed as MCA DiscoVision (or simply “DiscoVision”), with MCAnote and Dutch electronics company Philips having significantly contributed to the development of the format. Moreover, Jaws was the first movie to be released on it. In 1980, Pioneer Electronics bought out the rights and patents to the format, and subsequently renamed it “LaserVision”, with the format introduced in Japan in 1981. Although they would later use “LaserDisc”note as a brand name, LaserVision was the official name of the format until the early 1990s, when Pioneer finally began to use “LaserDisc” as the format’s official name.

    The Resolution Quality

With the exception of DVD, Laserdiscs are by far the best-looking and sounding home video system available. Pioneer pitches LD as “60% sharper” than VHS. LD image quality is roughly comparable to standard 16mm film, VHS is roughly comparable to 8mm film.Depending on source material and the transfer to disc, LD is above live TV broadcast quality. For NTSC, this is 425 TVL (luminance lines horizontally for 3/4 of the screen width) and about 482 scan lines, compared to 330×482 for broadcast.

LaserDisc gave way to letterbox. When LaserDisc came to market, people, for the first time, could watch theatrical movies in their homes. Some intelligent producers actually thought that some people would perhaps enjoy actually seeing the whole film. As a result, letterboxing was developed to mat the picture with black bars on the top and bottom. Enabling the wide center area to show the aspect ratio of the original theatrical presentation. Prior to this everything was presented in Pan and Scan mode whereby the wide version of the film was intelligently cropped to where the action was – but still eliminating 30% or more of the picture.

    Star Wars on LaserDisc

This is LaserDisc’s immortal contribution to humanity, film and society. LaserDiscs digital resolution was far superior to what was available in the late 70s and 80s. This made it the perfect platform to watch the most epic space saga to date. This tech was ahead of its time and prime for Star Wars fans. Most definitely the best way to watch Star Wars out side the cinema theaters. Great right? It is, but ends up being legendary. The Original trilogy is released in high quality LaserDisc in 1986. As the tech fades to the DVD smaller format just about the same time George Lucas sets his remasters to work. We know of the horrors that became of the re-release…. Han shot first!… As I digress, only the Remastered versions make it to DVD. Thus ensuring the original masterpieces are forever forgotten to the approaching digital DVD revolution.

However, LaserDisc saves the day. Nerds unit and covet the LaserDisc copies. Later converting them to a higher resolution digital copy that will circulate through the internet and ensuring the glory days of Star Wars..

  • Sizzling Hot Tub Deals

    Sizzling Hot Tub Deals

Getting the right hot tub is harder than it looks. Hot tubs are also an interesting market, for a number of reasons. When you go to buy one, you could go through several different avenues.

You could purchase one through a warehouse retailer like Costco, you could go through a luxury store or even a specialty hot tub retailer. If you’re looking to save money on buying a hot tub, it can be difficult to know where to start. We are here to help though, here’s how you can save money on a hot tub!

BEST HOT TUB DEALS OF 2018

    Costco

Costco is a massive, warehouse-style retailer. Those who wish to shop there have to have a membership, but it offers some pretty good discounts for those who do. You can buy wholesale amounts of common groceries. However, there is another reason to be a Costco member: their great deals on hot tubs! They offer great prices on luxury hot tubs, so they’re worth looking at for deals.  For instance, they currently carry the Evolution Spas Oxford 121 Jet Spa which holds up to 7 people for 8,999.99.  This spa has a full body lounger and 4 captain’s chairs with neck and shoulder jets. Costco might not be your first instinct, but it should be!

    Overstock

Overstock is a wholesaler who focuses on saving users money by selling overstocked items. That’s a pretty standard business strategy, and it might seem like it’s not that good of a deal. However, there are a number of great savings to find. One of the biggest discounts comes through overstocked hot tubs! That’s a thing, believe it or not. New users can sign up and even get 15% off of purchases! Some items are on sale for as much as 70% off, which can really save you some money on a hot tub. One good affordable idea is the Goplus Portable Inflatable Bubble Massage Spa Hot Tub for only $341.99, which normally retails around $400. You can keep it put up at home and take it out when you need it or when you want to bring it on vacation. For $3.999, you can get a 50 jet with a full body lounger and seating for up to 6 people.

    Conclusion

There are many kinds of hot tubs and several options with each. You will also need to decide where you are going to set up the hot tub and what size you need, depending on how many people you expect to use it. It’s surprising how affordable it can be to have a hot tub, especially if you find a good deal.
