Biggest Apple News: iOS 13 and iPad OS Coming Soon

Apple’s users are constantly getting excited for the next big thing in the world of technology. This year, that big thing is actually going to be two things: firstly, the much-anticipated release of iOS 13 will bring a slew of quality-of-life upgrades to the ever-popular iPhone family. Secondly, the new iPhone 11 is rumored to be bringing even more revolutionary changes to the formula started with the iPhone X’s unique redesign of the iPhone model.

Today we’re talking about the biggest reveals from iOS 13’s developer beta and the news from the upcoming iPad OS updates. If you’re a fan of Apple, or you’re considering picking up an iPhone or iPad, there’s a number of awesome new features coming down the pipeline to look forward to. Let’s break it down.

iOS 13 and iPad OS Context

This might sound dramatic, but iOS 13 is a huge crux point for Apple. The Cupertino-based company has its work cut out for it going toe-to-toe with Android. Google’s smartphone OS: Google owns 90% of the market share when it comes to smartphone install base. That’s due, in large part, to Android’s place as an open system than can run on third-party smartphones.

Apple’s iOS, of course, can only be found on Apple’s own iPhone or iPad devices. This means that, while being incredibly popular in the US, they’re far from ubiquitous in regions like China and India. iOS 13 is Apple’s big push to make their OS the best, judging from tons of oft-requested features finally making their way to the system. Let’s talk about what’s new.

    Dark Mode

The most exciting new feature, for us, is system-wide dark mode. This means that the background of various apps and the general system menus and dialogue will be darker in tint and tone when dark mode is enabled. Apps that are already capable of operating in dark mode will be automatically switched over to that setting when you flip the system-wide switch. We’re also hoping that the setting will be able to detect sunset times and automatically switch on or off depending on the time of day.

Why use dark mode, you ask? There are a number of benefits associated with it. Firstly, it helps conserve your battery when your screen isn’t having to illuminate so much. Secondly, it’s easier on the eyes when it’s dark out to see a darker image onscreen. Finally, it’s better for your natural circadian rhythms to not stare at a screen that lets out light the same color as the sun’s light.

    New Siri Voice

Siri’s aged pretty poorly in light of Alexa and Google Assistant. The latter two virtual assistants sound natural and respond to a variety of voice commands, while Siri sound like a computer from an old sci-fi movie and only answers very specific commands. iOS 13 is bringing a huge overhaul to Siri to make her more competitive as a virtual assistant, both in iPhones and as the brains inside of Apple’s HomePod smart speaker.

    Better, Faster, Stronger

General updates like speed and performance are coming in iOS 13. The race to be the fastest and easiest-to-use OS continues this year as Android is pushing ahead with Android Q, their newest OS, which promises to be the fastest Android update yet. iOS 13 promises even more security features, too, including “Sign in with Apple,” which will help to keep your personal info safe from prying eyes.

Other great new features include customizable “Memoji,” allowing you to create your own emoji avatar and animate it with your own face. This is akin to the Animoji features found in the iPhone X back in iOS 12. Other quality of life upgrades, like blocking unknown callers, are coming to the phone as well.

  • Samsung Galaxy Fold Release Date Announced (Again)

Samsung Galaxy Fold Release Date Announced (Again)

Earlier this year, one of the biggest exciting developments for smartphones was exected to be the advent of folding phones with central displays. However, after the flagship Samsung Galaxy Fold experienced numerous hardware failures during testing, the phone’s April 26th release date was delayed indefinitely. For a time, it was unclear whether Samsung would be shelving the folding phone concept altogether.

Now, we have confirmation of a new release window for the hotly-anticipated phone. Samsung has now promised that the folding phone will be on sale by the end of September. This is a far cry from the predictions we made: earlier, we had predicted that it seemed as though Samsung would discontinue the original Fold altogether and start from scratch. It seems they have faith in their original design, and they claim to have corrected the issues that had plagued test models back in April.

    Samsung Course Corrects

Following the announcement of the delay, many tech industry analysts were convinced that the time just wasn’t right for foldable displays. Clearly, if Samsung couldn’t figure it out, how could we expect this tech to take off for anyone? After all, the price point hovers around $2,000, twice as much as the price of the flagship Galaxy 10.

According to Samsung, the issues that were present in the test models have been addressed. Reviewers founds their screens bending and bowing from debris that had worked between the screen and the phone’s backing. Additionally, some people removed a thin film layer, thinking it was a screen protector, only to find it was actually an integral part of the phone and resulting in full screen failure.

    Addressing the Issues

So, what has Samsung done to help make the phone ready for a mass release? Firstly, the protective layer has been extended beyond the bezel to make it appear as though it is not something that could be simply removed like a dust cover. Secondly, there are also now reinforcements worked into the phone’s structure to keep debris from wiggling down in there.

Thirdly, there are now metal reinforcements beneath the plastic screen in order to bolster the otherwise-flexible display. Finally, Samsung introduced protective caps to the top and bottom of the hinge mechanism, making it that much sturdier. This also includes reducing the gap between the hinge and the body of the phone, making it that much harder for debris to slip between.

    Significance

If they had been unable to resolve the issues with the Galaxy Fold, it would have resulted in a major embarrassment for Samsung. Tech industry analysts had assumed that foldable displays were going to be the next big thing in smartphone design, so Samsung’s inability to stick the landing came as a shock. Had they been unable to deliver, it would have allowed room for another company, like Motorola, to swoop in and steal their thunder.

With the newly-announced release window, confidence in the brand and the folding display experiment has been renewed. This is a big step for Samsung, and will likely be the biggest move for the company since they first unveiled their Galaxy line over a decade ago. The question remains whether the public will be eager to embrace a $2,000 phone that now has a reputation for being easy to break.

    Release Details

At the time of this writing, there’s no definitive release date for the Samsung Galaxy Fold. However, we would expect to see it sometime in mid-September to compete with Apple’s new offerings this year. The phone will retail for $1,980, making it far and away the most expensive smartphone in Samsung’s lineup and nearly double the cost of most premium flagship phones. Time will tell if the phone is the seismic shift that analysts expect.

  • iPhone 11 Rumors: Latest Reports

    iPhone 11 Rumors: Latest Reports

New rumors around the iPhone 11 are swirling, and they’re all rather impressive. Apple’s had some issues lately moving phones, as people are keeping their older phones longer and technology is plateauing. The suite of new features in the iPhone 11 seemed geared to both impress tech-heads while also converting people who are hanging on to their iPhone SEs still. Let’s take a look at the newest iPhone 11 rumors.

    iPhone 11 Rumors

    Camera Bump

The notorious camera bump that has been speculated to be coming in the iPhone 11 has looked ugly in previous mock-ups. The large, protruding square with a cluster of three cameras throws the entire appearance of the back of the phone off. Thankfully, some newly-leaked concepts show the iPhone 11’s three-camera array will be on a much more subdued bump from the back of the phone.

New mockups show the camera bump has rounded corners, a staple of Apple design, as well as a sleek profile that barely pops up from the back of the phone. This design looks much more stylish and professional, and we’re happy to see it rather than a larger, square-shaped version of the iPhone X’s camera bump.

    Mute Switch

Everyone who owns an iPhone knows what a pain the mute switch on the side can be. If you’ve ever meant to have your phone on silent when it starts ringing during a meeting, you know what we’re talking about. This is due to the shape of the mute switch: it’s a thin bar that can simply be toggled forward or backward to silence or un-mute the phone.

Thankfully, Apple’s got a solution for this one cooked up for the iPhone 11. The newest phone looks poised to introduce the same silence-toggle seen on the more recent iPad models: a circular switch that is moved up and down, rather than forward or back. Hopefully this will cut down on the number of times the switch gets flipped in our pockets.

    Construction

It seems like Apple is in the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” camp when it comes to the phone’s glass back. Glass-backed phones started getting big in 2017 for a number of reasons. Firstly, the glass allows for wireless charging signals to pass through unimpeded. Secondly, on the same token, they’ll likely make it easier for 5G signals to be passed to the phone over the airwaves.

Another upside of an all-glass back is that is looks very stylish while also protecting the phone against damage. That might sound counterintuitive, but hear us out. The incredibly durable Gorilla Glass used in phones like the iPhone XR is actually even better at protecting your phone’s internal components than plastic.

    Returning Features

Further returning designs include the return of the dual-camera sensor for Face ID and the lack of a physical front button. Apple’s been the sole company allowing for only Face ID to unlock their flagship phones, foregoing fingerprint scanners altogether. This has made the iPhone X and its family of phones a very futuristic and natural device for Apple users.

The lack of a physical front button means that this iPhone will also necessitate the use of gesture controls to navigate iOS. This news might be disappointing for people who were hoping that Apple would reintroduce the older style of navigation using the physical front button. For fans of the clean and easy-to-use buttonless iOS, however, this is great news.

    When Will it Release?

If this year is anything like previous release years for Apple, we could expect to see the iPhone 11 landing sometime in late September. We’ll likely see a full and proper unveiling of the device during the week of September 8th.

  • iOS 13 Beta: New Features and What to Expect

iOS 13 Beta: New Features and What to Expect

Every year or so, a new update for Apple’s cellphone operating system, iOS, begins making the rounds. This time around, it’s lucky number 13, and there’s a wealth of new features and quality of life updates coming down the pipeline for Apple’s OS. Today we’re giving you the scoop on the newest iOS update so you know what to expect when the operating system goes live later this year.

    iOS 13 Beta

    Dark Mode

Dark mode is coming to iOS! Let that sink in for a moment. Real dark mode support from Apple! That’s a first for the nearly 13-year-old OS, but we’d rather see it get here late than never. While some people might not care much about the option for a dark mode, it’s a big deal for some users.

Some people just don’t like the harsh, bright backgrounds of most apps. Other people don’t like being blinded by the brightness of some white-background apps in the middle of the night. Others still just like to keep it dark, man. No matter your reasoning for wanting dark mode, it’s coming as an OS-wide option for iOS 13. Frankly, this is the one we’re most excited for.

    QuickPath Swipe Keyboard

A feature that Android users have long enjoyed is the swipe-based keyboard. While Apple offers a great number of security features and clean UI, the option for a swipe keyboard has long been iffy at best. However, the new QuickPath swipe keyboard in iOS 13 will do its part to change that!

Early reviews from beta testers have stated that the swipe keyboard is responsive and works great in most scenarios. More complex words, uncommon names and acronyms are still a little more difficult to get to work, but the same can be said of any swipe keyboard. Thankfully, it seems to be a far better option for iOS users that want a swipe-based keyboard for quick texting than installing a third-party app.

    FaceTime Attention Correction

FaceTime attention correction, as its called, is coming to iOS 13. This means that when you’re on a FaceTime call and you’re looking slightly to the side or down to see the person you’re talking to, the phone’s system will automatically center your view so your attention appears to be on the person you’re talking to.

This means that you’ll not have that strange, slightly-off look when you’re talking to your friends or family on the new iOS. Neat!

    New Siri Voice

Siri’s new voice will sound more natural and less robotic, according to Apple. This is great for people who use HomePod or AirPods, as it means that when Siri is reading off longer sentences, she’ll sound more natural. For instance, people who use AirPods might want Siri to read their texts to them, and she’ll sound much more natural and normal while doing so.

Likewise, Siri can now better differentiate between different voices. For instance, when you’re using your HomePod, and you ask Siri to read your calendar, she’ll pull up the correct one for you, not your spouse or kid’s calendar!

    iOS 13 Release Time Table

The beta for iOS 13 launched in late June, and it’s likely that the iOS update will be hitting phones sometime in mid-September. While there’s no official release date as of yet, it would be unusual for Apple to not ship the new iOS with this year’s new iPhones. Historically, the newest iPhones launch yearly in the middle of September.

We don’t know about you, but we’re absolutely thrilled that Apple is introducing an OS-wide Dark Mode, so we’ll be updating as soon as the new OS launches!

  • Tesla Cuts Prices Across Product Range

Tesla Cuts Prices Across Product Range

Tesla, the fan-favorite controversial electric carmaker, has cut prices across their entire product range as the tax credits on their vehicles fades towards the end of 2019. Previously, before 2019 started, Tesla customers in the US could get a $7,500 tax credit. From January 1st on that credit declined to $3,750, and it’s now only $1,875; it’ll be gone altogether by the end of the year.

In response to these tax credits vanishing, Tesla is doing its part to try to keep their luxury electric cars attractive to prospective buyers. These changes also include a few product shuffles of trim levels among the higher end of the range. Are the price cuts enough to keep the cars competitive in the market, or does this mark the end of an era for Tesla?

    Lineup Changes

Starting on Monday, Tesla pulled the Standard Range versions of the Models S and X, leaving only the more expensive Long Range and Performance versions. At the same time, the Long Range Model S dropped down to $79,990 from $85,000. For comparison, the Standard Range Model S was $75,000.

Oddly, the price of the Model S Performance trim went up to $99,990, where it was previously only $96,000. That said, the Ludicrous mode option is now standard, while it used to be a $20,000 upcharge. The Ludicrous Mode lives up to its name, offering absurd acceleration and speeds.

    Price Cuts

As for the more affordable Model 3, it’s now seen price cuts across its entire range. Previously, the $35,000 Stander Range Model 3, long promised by Musk, was pulled in favor of the Standard Range Plus. The Standard Range Plus started out at $39,500, though it’s now been reduced to $38,990.

On the higher end, the Long Range Model 3, which allows for significantly more range, is now down to $47,990, a solid $1,500 cheaper than its previous price of $49,500. The highest trim level of the Model 3, the Performance Model, received the steepest price cut, dropping all the way from $59,500 to $54,990. That’s nearly $5,000 off of one of the best cars on the market!

    Clearer Product Lineup

This does a few great things for Tesla. Namely, it cleans up the product line dramatically. Previously, there was little distinction between the high end Model 3s and entry-level Model Ss. Now, instead of being a bit more muddied, it’s clear that there’s a distinction between the two vehicles. The high-end Performance Model 3 comes in at $54,990, while the low-end Long Range Model S starts way above that, at $79,990.

Previously, it was entirely possible to outfit a Performance Model 3 with so many options that it was nearly as expensive as the entry-level Standard Range Model S. Now, it’s significantly more clear that there’s a hard distinction between the two products.

    How Important is This?

It’s worth noting that this just means that the Model 3’s Standard Range Plus and Long Range options are overall more expensive than when the full tax credit was still available. These price drops do little to make the vehicles more affordable to people who were already unable to afford a Tesla.

That said, if you’re the kind of person who was already looking into getting a Tesla, but waiting on notable price cuts now’s your time to consider it more seriously. The inclusion of Ludicrous Mode on the Performance Model S for only $99,990 makes it one of the best deals on the absurdly-powerful Tesla. Likewise, anyone interested in the Performance Model 3 should consider picking one up now that they’re only $54,990, a solid $5,000 less than they were a week ago. That’s a hard deal to pass up if you’re in the market!

  • Snapdragon 855+: What’s Up With this New Android Chip?

Snapdragon 855+: What’s Up With this New Android Chip?

Qualcomm, one of the biggest manufacturers of Android phone chips, has announced a mid-cycle upgrade for their Snapdragon 855 system on a chip (SoC). The newly-announced Snapdragon 855+ is still an eight-core SoC, and it’s still 7nm, but it has some notable upgrades. What does this mean for upcoming Android phones?

Today we’re taking a closer look at the hardware that goes into making smartphone tick. We’ll be diving into the technical side of Qualcomm’s SoCs, and what a mid-cycle upgrade could mean for upcoming Android phones. Let’s talk about some silicone.

    System on Chip

Firstly, a quick primer. A system on a chip means exactly what it sounds like: it’s a computer system on a single chip. While the system in a full-fledged computer, like a desktop or a laptop, has chips specifically for things like processing, graphical capabilities and the like. By contrast, smartphones, tablets and other small technological devices don’t have the space for all of these spread-out components.

Enter the SoC, and its incredibly useful space-saving capabilities. While you don’t get the same power as you would from a more full-fledged computer, an SoC allows for good performance on a small device without sacrificing much in the way of space or thermal usage. In short, it’s this technology that makes smartphones possible. Were it not for complex and robust SoCs, like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series, we’d still be using flip phones.

    The Snapdragon 855+

So, what does this new mid-cycle upgrade mean for Qualcomm? Well, the Prime CPU in the SoC has been bumped up in clock speed. It now clocks in at 2.96GHz, where it was hitting 2.84GHz. This means that the chip can refresh faster, allowing it to accomplish more complex tasks. One of the 855’s strengths is its unusual CPU setup, which sports a “big” cluster of four cores and a smaller set of cores for more power-efficient tasks.

The 855+ has a new paradigm for this: instead of having a cluster of cores for its “big” core, it now has one Prime core with Cortez A76 infrastructure to handle big tasks. Meanwhile, the new usage of the Prime infrastructure should be useful in delegating tasks, meaning the device will be more powerful overall while also offering better thermals and a lower power consumption for simpler tasks. In short, the 855+ will always use the right tool for the job.

    In Action

In action, this will mean faster graphics rendering, higher clock rates and better performance. For people interested in using their phones for gaming, levels and textures will load faster. For people more concerned with augmented reality, the graphics will be quicker and more seamlessly integrated. Power users will be able to squeeze tons of utility out of such an upgraded chip, maximizing both their power and battery life.

Even for users who prefer to use their phones for just browsing the web, answering emails and taking calls, the upgraded chip will offer a ton of new utility and power for any tasks they need to tackle. Swapping between apps, multitasking, screen-in-screen and more will all be faster and more responsive.

    The Phones

The first phone to roll out with the new chip will be the Asus ROG Phone 2, which will be hitting on July 23rd. We also wouldn’t be surprised to see the new chip infrastructure showing up in the Galaxy Note 10 on August 7th.

In short, this new Snapdragon 855+ will make for a great upgrade to existing Android phone user interfaces, making gaming and daily use alike faster and more responsive. It’s good to see Qualcomm keeping up with the competition from Apple, who are hard at work on the next iteration of their powerful Bionic chip family.

  • Huawei Ban: What This Could Mean

Huawei Ban: What This Could Mean

Huawei, the world’s second-biggest smartphone manufacturer, has been having a rough couple of months. Most recently, the Trump Administration issued an executive order that cuts the Chinese company off from American resources such as Google’s Android platform.

Trump’s order, called “Securing the Information and Communications Technology and Services Supply Chain,” effectively bans Huawei from doing business in America, or with American companies. What does this mean for the Android brand and for Huawei?

    Huawei Ban

    What Does This Entail?

The Department of Commerce released a statement on the ban in order to explain what it means.

“The executive order prohibits transactions that involve information and communications technology or services designed, developed, manufactured, or supplied by persons owned by, controlled by, or subject to the jurisdiction or direction of a foreign adversary whenever the secretary of commerce determines that a transaction would pose a threat to national security,” reads the statement.

This means, in effect, that Huawei, as a Chinese communications company that is known to have close ties to the Chinese government, is being viewed as a “foreign adversary”.

    Why Did This Happen?

This ban reflects years of tense relations between Chinese and American companies in the tech sector. In 2012, the federal government warned carriers in the US of carrying Huawei’s handsets. There has been a fear that Huawei would use its devices to spy on American corporations and steal secrets.

In fact, there has long been speculation that Huawei’s meteoric rise and unparalleled technological advancement in the last decade was largely a result of stealing intellectual property from tech companies in other countries. Huawei, for their part, has repeatedly denied any claims that it has stolen IP or engaged in any form of corporate espionage.

    What Will This Mean?

In the short term, this ban might not amount to any real damage. Without wading too deep into foreign policy, the Trump Administration is in the midst of a very tense trade standoff with China. It’s likely that this Huawei play will be used as a bargaining chip in future trade talks between the two massive economies.

In the long term, if the ban stays in effect, it’s likely it will slow the US rollout of 5G communications tech. Many telecom companies rely on technology imported from China, much of it made by Huawei. Unlike Samsung or Apple, Huawei is as much a telecom company as a smartphone manufacturer.

    Global Scale

While Huawei remains a major player in China, their decoupling from Google could prove disastrous for their bottom line. Google has announced they’ll be honoring the executive order, pulling support for their Android operating system from Huawei. That means that Huawei devices won’t be getting updates for their OS, or critical security updates from Google.

Huawei has stated it will support its own devices with regular security updates, though this is a bold claim. It’s unclear if the company has the programming staff to undertake such a massive job. Meanwhile, the lack of support from Google means that Huawei will have to rely on an open-source version of Android. This will have them several months behind the competition in terms of updates and features.

    Samsung Ascendant

Huawei was on track to dethrone Samsung as the de facto king of Android. Recent advances in Huawei’s tech had them nipping at Samsung’s heels. For their own part, the Korean smartphone manufacturer has been lagging behind on innovation, with their recent slate of phones being more iterative than revolutionary.

The ban from Washington DC could prove to be a huge windfall for the Korean company, however. Samsung stands to gain a lot from their chief rival being halted in their tracks and cut off from Google’s support. Samsung, meanwhile, continues to enjoy its partnership with Google, getting early test builds of Android OS to make sure their phones run smoothly.

  • Tesla Model S, Model 3 Post Results in Tire Rack One Lap of America

Tesla Model S, Model 3 Post Results in Tire Rack One Lap of America

It’s no secret that Tesla’s electric vehicles have some ludicrous performance. Whether they’re being compared to other electric vehicles or conventional cars, Tesla’s vehicles can seriously burn some rubber. That was put to the test at this year’s Tire Rack One Lap of America, one of the most notorious street races in the world.

Tesla Model S, Model 3 Posting Big Results

    The One Lap

The Tire Rack One Lap of America, better known as the One Lap, is a direct offshoot of the legendary Cannonball Run. Cannonball Run itself was an infamous outlaw street race that started in New York and ended in LA. The modern One Lap race is much more, ahem, legal, than its predecessor, but it is no less grueling.

One Lap consists of no less than 3,500 miles of transit and endurance-testing tracks all across the country. In short, both driver and car better be made of some stern stuff to tough out the One Lap street race.

    The Standings

Impressively, the Model S and Model 3 teams not only both completed the race, they posted serious results. In fact, the Model 3 landed the top spot among the Alternative Fuel class and second place in the Stock Touring class. Overall, the Model 3 team finished 17th out of 77 entrants in the One Lap race.

The Model S also posted impressive results, though it was somewhat hindered by its own battery overheating while on the track. Unlike the Model 3, which offers a Track Mode and has great thermal management, the Model S was consistently having its battery overheat and offering less power for the team to pull from.

    What This Means

While it could be some time yet before electric cars are posting huge wins in every category, this is impressive for a pair of cars from a relatively new automaker. Perhaps in ten years an electric performance vehicle will bring home the trophy in the One Lap street race!

  • Sega Genesis Mini: Pricing and Release Details at Sega Fest

Sega Genesis Mini: Pricing and Release Details at Sega Fest

The upcoming Sega Genesis Mini looks promising. Sega has ditched third-party hardware makers in favor of manufacturing a proper emulation of their own classic hardware. At Sega Fest 2019, we got even more details about the upcoming retro console, including ten more game reveals and info on pricing and release!

    Sega Genesis Mini

    The Games

While we already knew 20 of the games coming to the Genesis Mini, Sega has unveiled ten more games coming to the system. These include Ghouls and Ghosts, Sonic Spinball, Beyond Oasis, Golden Axe, Street Fighter 2, Vectorman, Mega Man: the Wily Wars, Alex Kidd and the Enchanted Caste and Phantasy Star 4.

The remaining 10 games coming to the Genesis Classic will be unveiled in June, according to Sega.

    Pricing and Release

We learned more than just that at Sega Fest 2019, too. We also learned when we can expect the micro console and how much it will cost! The system will release on September 19th, and is already available for preorder at some retailers.

As for how much it’ll run you, Sega has announced an MSRP of $80. With any luck, the system will be produced in large enough quantities that anyone who wants one will be able to snatch them up before scalpers do. Hopefully Sega learns from the mistakes of the NES Classic launch, which saw systems being sold on eBay for four times their MSRP by scalpers.

In Europe, the system will be marketed under its Mega Drive branding, much as it was originally in the 80’s and 90’s.

    What’s in the Box

The Sega Genesis Mini will come with two replica Genesis controllers, as well as an adorable mini version of the classic console. It’ll also come packed in with a USB cable for power and an HDMI cable so you can hook it up to your TV.

We’re excited to get our hands on one, if only to relive some of the classic Sega goodness of years gone by. Also, it’ll look great next to our SNES and NES Classic Minis.

  • What’s New for the 2020 Audi A4

    What’s New for the 2020 Audi A4

Audi’s announced a slate of new features and updates for the A4, which will be rolling out for the next model year. Between a new look, hybrid engine options and new tech, there’s a lot to cover in this A4 update. If you’re in the market for a luxury car, this news might be music to your ears.

    Audi A4 Updates

    Styling

The A4 has received a styling pass this time around, and it looks slick. A number of adjustments have been made to the outside of the car, from the wider and flatter grill to the introduction of 12 new paint options. The headlights have been updated and are now LED, and there are multi-element running lights along the body now. Besides that, the A4 also sports an updated rear, with more updated styling on the rear lights that is reminiscent of the A6.

    Technology

New tech makes an appearance in the A4, including a new 10-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. You can upgrade for a Bang and Olufsen sound system, taking full advantage of the luxurious and quiet interior of the A4. Meanwhile, the vehicle now offers a Wi-Fi hotspot and natural language searching for the infotainment system. Thankfully, this A4 model will forego the second, lower touchscreen in favor of physical buttons. The secondary touchscreen on other Audi models has notable less sensitivity and outdated graphics, making it less luxurious and more off-putting. We’ll take the physical buttons and knobs over a Windows XP-looking touchscreen.

    Mild Hybrid

In Europe, where the A4 will be offered starting this Summer, there will be mild hybrid powertrain options. Three of the six available powertrains will offer 12-volt mild hybrid options to help keep the gas mileage high, making these more economic options. Time will tell how long we have to wait to see these new luxury options for the A4 to roll out in America. However, Europe will be seeing these changes in the coming months. We’ll be keeping our eyes on the A4 as a serious contender in the luxury sedan market, though.
