  • iPhone Feature Roundup: How do They Compare?

iPhone Feature Roundup: How do They Compare?

A lot of people took notice when the iPhone X was announced to retail for $1,000. As the first mass-market smartphone to break the $1,000 price tag, it must be something special, right? Apple seemed to be hedging their bets slightly, and also released the iPhone 8, an $800 option that more closely resembles previous iterations of the iPhone. In order to help you with figuring out which one is right for you, we’ve got an iPhone feature roundup to break down the difference between the two flavors of iPhone.

    Price

The first one is the most obvious, and we’ve already been over it, but it bears repeating. The iPhone X is truly the best smartphone in the world, and its price reflects that. $1,000 is a lot of money to pay for a phone, but that buys you a ton of features. The iPhone 8 is no slouch, either, to be fair, and costs a respectable $800. Both phones are on the premium side, so the question becomes: what does $200 buy you?

    Face ID vs Fingerprint Scanner

Face ID is convenient, fast and secure. Apple was the first to market with very secure, very accurate facial recognition software. The depth-sensing front cameras in the iPhone X’s much-maligned notch can read your face in the blink of an eye. The iPhone 8, on the other hand, sports the same fingerprint scanner iPhones have been using for years. It’s secure, it’s fast and it’s pretty much the same as you’d expect. It works fine in most circumstances, but if you’re wearing gloves or if your hands are wet, it’s a no-go.

Face ID isn’t the only use of those front cameras, though: the animated “Animoji” technology is exclusive to iPhone X. It’s silly, it’s cute and you absolutely want it. Is it worth $200? Your call.

    OLED Screen, Bezels

The iPhone X has a huge, bright and gorgeous OLED display that looks sharp even in direct sunlight. It’s hard to describe, but it simply has an alluring glow to it that dazzles the eye. If that sounds overly romantic, you probably haven’t seen one in person. The iPhone 8, on the other hand, sports a Retina display that looks fine, if somewhat tame compared to the iPhone X.

Interestingly, the iPhone 8 Plus is bigger than the iPhone X by a good bit, yet the iPhone X still sports a bigger screen, thanks to its nearly bezel-free design. Almost the entire front face of the phone is screen, with the exception of the notch.

    Home Button

A huge change in the iPhone X is the lack of a home button. If you’re a home button faithful, you want an iPhone 8, period. It’s a pretty big change, and if you’ve been using iPhones since 2007, it will certainly take some getting used to. That said, the gesture controls are intuitive, fast and slick, and you will get used to them.

    iPhone Feature Bottom Line

One way to look at the iPhone X is as a proof-of-concept for the way future iPhones will work. So, by getting an iPhone 8, you’ll have a nostalgic, old-school style iPhone experience. However, you’re likely only delaying the inevitable. That $200 upcharge can be viewed as the price of entry to a new era of iPhone. If you’re the kind of person that gets excited by bleeding edge tech, you want an iPhone X. If you want the same experience you’ve grown accustomed to, the 8 is more your speed.

  • Best Chevy Cars of 2018

    Best Chevy Cars of 2018

Chevy’s got quite the lineup of excellent vehicles this year. If you’re looking for a new Chevy and not sure which one is right for you, you’ve come to the right place. Today, we’re looking at the five best Chevy cars of 2018! Let’s talk cars!

    Chevrolet Bolt

We’re kicking things off with the all-electric Chevy Bolt. Capable of going 90 miles on a 30-minute charge, Chevy’s high-tech electric rivals anything from Tesla. If you’ve never been a fan of gassing up your car, you’re in luck: no more waiting at the pump or paying for gas! The 2018 Chevy Bolt starts at $36,620, making it a rather affordable EV! The only drawback is the somewhat cheap make of the interior.

    Chevrolet Sonic

Hatchbacks are great for outdoors-lovers, campers and hikers, as well as for getting around the city and grabbing groceries! The 2018 Chevy Sonic is affordable, too, at $15,295, making it great for families and those looking for a reliable car. While it doesn’t have power or handling to write home about, it’s still a great pick for those who just need a car! It also sports great fuel economy!

    Chevrolet Cruze

The 2018 Chevy Cruze is a great choice for those looking for a car that’s great on gas. Sporting excellent fuel economy and a great price, the Cruze is great for those living in the city. With 28 miles-per-gallon city and 39 highway, you’ll go farther on less and save money! The 2018 model starts at $16,975, making it a great value for anyone looking for a slick ride.

    Chevrolet SS

It’s likely you might have never heard of the Chevy SS. 2017 was the last year the under-marketed vehicle was in production. However, as a full-sized, rear-wheel drive Sedan, it stands up great against the competition. For a starting price of $46,625, the vehicle is surprisingly luxurious. It sports a good bit of power, too, coming in with 415 horsepower and great acceleration. If you’re into manual transmission, you can opt for that in this vehicle, too.

The Best Chevy Cars of 2018: Chevrolet Corvette

Okay, so the ‘Vette doesn’t scream “affordable,” but it is much less expensive than comparable BMWs and other high-end sports cars. If you’re a lover of American-made sports car awesomeness, the ‘Vette is for you. The base price for this year’s model is $55,495, which is almost half what you’d expect to pay for cars from other companies that have this much power. It starts with 455 horsepower, continues with the insane acceleration, and rounds out with the superior handling. A premium ride for a great price.

  • Feature Roundup: 2019 Dodge Ram 1500

There’s no shortage of competition in the full-sized truck market. If you’re looking for a ton of room, great towing power and that classic American-tough look, Dodge’s Ram 1500 is a great pick.

The 2019 model, due later this year, is no exception. Let’s look at some of the features Dodge is cramming into the 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 to see how it stacks up against the competition!

    2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Specs

When it comes to full-sized trucks, size is certainly a consideration, and the Ram doesn’t disappoint. The Quad Cab is 5’7”, and the Crew Cab is 6’4”, so you can tailor your truck to your specific needs. Payload capacity is 2,300 lbs., and towing is 12,750 lbs. Those numbers certainly don’t make any mistakes, this is a powerful, rugged vehicle. If you need a truck to get yourself, your buddies and your stuff from site to site, this one can do that.

Rear-wheel drive is standard, but you can opt for four-wheel drive. There are a ton of different engine options, so you can pick and choose which amount of power you need under the hood. The 8-speed automatic transmission is standard (sorry, manual-lovers). Interestingly, this year’s truck is a few hundred lbs. lighter than trucks from previous years, affording it better control and performance in general.

    This Year’s Upgrades

The 2018 Ram is an undeniably great vehicle. So, how does Dodge plan to impress with the 2019? One way is the general ride quality. The huge, floaty performance is reminiscent of a large SUV, from the way it handles on turns to its ability to tank bumps. If you like a smooth ride and don’t mind some awkward steering, the ride is great. Another improvement over last year is the luxurious, quiet interior cabin. The finished plastic and smooth leather give an overall premium feel to a hard-working truck.

    Pricing Details

Prices on the 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 start at $33,340, and of course, the more bells and whistles you get the more that number rolls up. The Laramie model, for instance, starts at $42,335 and nets you an Alpine stereo, heated and cooled seats and leather upholstery. If you’re looking for a high-end heavy-duty truck, you can’t go wrong with the Ram.

  • Best OLED TVs in 2018

    Best OLED TVs in 2018

The biggest, best and brightest 4K TVs are powered by OLED technology. Which OLED TVs are the best, though? That depends on what you’re looking for, of course. However, cutting edge technology is expensive, and no one wants to make a bad call on something that pricey. With that in mind, we’ve got a roundup of our favorite OLED TVs for 2018 to help you pick! Get ready to see some awesome displays!

     LG Signature OLED TV W8

You may have heard of these “Wallpaper” displays. They really have to be seen to be believed: they are amazingly thin. Truthfully, the guts of these TVs are held in the included soundbar. The display itself is just that, a display; the tech powering it is off-site, so to speak, in the soundbar. There’s also no bones about it, these displays are seriously expensive.

However, if money is no object, it’s hard to deny how amazing this screen looks. Depending on the screen you choose, it runs between $7,000 and $15,000, but that price gets you a truly futuristic piece of technology. It’s hard to overstate how good these OLED screens look. It also supports every type of HDR, meaning it’s fully future proofed. For the very best, at a very high price, this is the one you want.

    SONY A8F BRAVIA OLED TV

Sony’s OLED entry is a fantastic TV for the price. Retailing for around $3,000, it’ll certainly set you back, but it’s an impressive piece of technology. For one thing, it has that beautiful OLED display, and it sports Sony’s great processors to make everything look smooth and seamless.

The other interesting wrinkle with this TV is the Acoustic Surface that Sony managed to fit in this panel. Acoustic Surface makes the screen itself the speaker, which is mind-blowing. The sound quality is surprisingly good, and the panel is very thin since it has no traditional speakers. It’s hard to describe, but it feels futuristic and truly awesome.

Our Favorite of 2018’s OLED TVs: LG C8-SERIES 4K OLED TV

LG knows what it’s doing when it comes to OLED. It’s hard to overstate how good this screen’s picture quality is. Images on this screen almost look more real than real life, which is almost visually confusing. 77-inch models exist but cost around $9,000 and are almost too big to be practical. 65-inch panels run for $3,500, and 55-inch screens are a more reasonable $2,500.

For that price, you get some of the best bang for your buck when it comes to home TV displays. While there are other, more fancy options, this LG line is a strictly good-looking display with no frills, and the cost reflects that. If you’re looking for the best picture at the best price, this is what you want.

  • Would You Look at That? Amazon Echo Look Feature Roundup

Would You Look at That? Amazon Echo Look Feature Roundup

If you’ve been following Amazon lately, you know that they’re really doubling down on Alexa devices. And why shouldn’t they? Their Echo family of products has been selling like hot cakes, and everyone loves the software! Their newest Alexa product is the Amazon Echo Look. This camera-enabled device is meant to help you coordinate your fashion and pick out good-looking clothes! It’s experimental, new, and definitely quite weird. That said, it seems somewhat promising!

    Echo Look Setup

The device itself is small, tube-shaped, and can be placed on a flat surface or mounted. It gets best results when placed at shoulder-height. You use the Amazon Look app to set it up though a smartphone. You can then pair it with Alexa and get ready to get a confidence boost!

    Impartial View

One great use of the Look is taking accurate, impartial pictures of you that you can view through the app. You can also just view yourself in live time, so you can turn in profile or turn around and see yourself through your app. This allows you to eliminate the wonky angles and potentially weird lighting that come with taking selfies. All said, this can make for quite a self-esteem boost!

    Fashion Forward

The main use for the Look, of course, is fashion. If you show the app two pictures of yourself in different outfits, the app will tell you which one you look better in. It uses a combination of machine learning and fashion expert advice to do this. It tells you which colors look good on you, which ones fit your profile better, and so on. What’s more, you can enable “pairing suggestions.” You can opt to share pictures taken with your Look to Amazon, and they’ll suggest clothes from the site that would pair well with your wardrobe.

After you’ve had the device for a while and had it take a large number of pictures of you, it makes a “look book” for you. This look book shows you what you wore on specific days, helping you hone your style and understand what looks good on you.

    Bottom Line

This is a really unique device! There’s really nothing else like it, and it feels like a natural extension of the personal assistant role that Alexa fills. The Amazon Echo Look retails for $200 and is available now.

  • Top Ten Games Released Before 1996

Top Ten Games Released Before 1996

The era before the middle of the 90’s is remembered for being a time of simpler video games and more bare-bones design. The release of the Sega Saturn, PlayStation and N64 would lead to the 3D-era of gaming. However, the game that came before would inform the types of games that would be made for decades after. With that in mind, get ready to take a trip back to the late 80’s and early 90’s, as we talk retro games! Here’s our ten favorite games released before 1996!

    Phantasy Star II

Sega might not make consoles anymore, but there was a time when they were one of the biggest names in gaming. A key aspect of their ongoing duel with Nintendo was the Phantasy Star franchise. These dark, critically acclaimed sci-fi RPGs defined the Genesis era as much as Sonic did. Interestingly, the game was released a few months before Final Fantasy in the US, which helped its popularity immensely. While Final Fantasy would go on to become a very well-known series, Phantasy Star was huge in the late 80’s. Phantasy Star II was also the first game on a six-megabit cartridge, which made it a technological wonder at the time!

The gameplay wouldn’t wow you today, especially if you’ve already played a number of classic Final Fantasy titles. That said, it’s still a well-made and fun RPG. Interestingly, the game was an early model of many tropes that would come to be genre-standard. The pathos, storytelling and heart on display here would go on to define story-driven RPGs. Sega might not make consoles anymore, but games like this remind us why they once did.

    Mega Man

No, we’re still not sure what’s going on with that box art. Hailing the game’s “high definition graphics” (seriously?) and state-of-the-art make, the box art belies one of the greatest games ever made. Mega Man is a side-scrolling platformer where you assume the role of the titular character. Your mission is to hunt down and decommission a number of robots who have gone rogue. Once you take them down, you take their weapons and increase your own power.

Mega Man is remembered for its engaging side-scrolling action, tense boss fights and feeling of progression. As you learned the levels and boss fight patterns, you felt ever stronger. Then, when you brought a boss low, you’d equip their weapon and your strength would grow greater still. Mega Man when on to have about ten thousand sequels, so you’ve definitely heard of the Blue Bomber.

    Gunstar Heroes

Side-scrolling shooters were hot in the early 90’s, from Contra to Gunstar Heroes. The latter was a huge hit for Sega, and a defining game on the Genesis. Featuring fast-paced, flashing action and intense boss fights, Gunstar Heroes was a technical marvel for Sega. Compared to other games in the genre, Gunstar was a white-knuckle rush with bright colors and detailed sprites. While games like Metal Slug and Contra would go on to be more well-known, the early 90’s were Sega’s era.

    Chrono Trigger

If that art style looks familiar, that’s because it’s Akira Toriyama, the acclaimed artist behind Dragon Ball. With Toriyama’s art gracing the box and Square’s pedigree for great RPGs carrying the name, Chrono Trigger was a big deal. Games released before 1996 didn’t often have this level of lavish detail or in-depth plotting. Featuring graphics that charmed as well as delighted and a fantastic story, Chrono Trigger felt like a game from the future. It helped that its story followed time-travelers!

The game has simple-but-intriguing RPG mechanics that never overwhelm the player. The game branches in different ways and offers multiple endings. New Game Plus allows you to go back through the game with your built-up characters. This also lets you see the other endings! Chrono Trigger was a monumental game, and the impact can still be felt today.

    Super Mario Bros

What can be said about Miyamoto’s masterful Super Mario Bros that hasn’t been said? This game defined a generation of gaming. Pitch-perfect controls, iconic sound design and those bright graphics introduced millions of people to Nintendo. Who hasn’t heard of Mario? You have this master piece of platforming design to thank for it. Everything from the sound and height of Mario’s jump to the music that plays when you enter Bowser’s castle just screams “fun.” And, in the end, that’s what defines this franchise: an overall sense of fun and whimsy. Whether you’re 8 or 80, Mario has something for you.

Bouncing off of Koopas, swimming around Bloopers, throwing fireballs thanks to the Fire Flower; it’s all so much fun. If you were a kid in this era, you definitely remember the first time you sat down in the floor and played Mario.

    Sonic the Hedgehog

While Nintendo had Mario for their mascot, Sega had the Blue Blur, Sonic. If you were around in this era, you remember the superheated marketing campaigns with Sega and Nintendo exchanging jabs. Sonic was a fast-paced, too-cool-for-school mascot for the edgy and cool Sega. Mario was the stuffy, boring stooge, according to Sega’s marketing, and he just couldn’t keep up with Sonic.

The first Sonic game definitely lived up to its name in a few ways. For one, the game was blisteringly fast. When you acquired a mastery of the levels and control, you could zoom through them at sonic speeds. The other way it lived up to that name was through the great music, a feature that would be a staple of the series. While Sonic has struggled to find an identity in the aftermath of Sega leaving the console market, he was once a pretty big deal. Nowhere is that more evident than in his triumphant Genesis titles.

    Final Fantasy

RPG games were staples among games before 1996. The technological limitations meant that top-down exploration and turn-based battles were necessities of the hardware, not stylistic decisions. When technology got stronger, some RPGs, like Final Fantasy 12, broke the tradition, but others, like Bravely Default, simply iterated on it. However, the game that would define RPGs in this era was supposed to be its creator’s last game: Final Fantasy.

The game took inspiration from American tabletop game Dungeons and Dragons. Final Fantasy appealed to a generation of kids who grew up playing D&D with their friends and loved seeing the adventures come to life on-screen. While the graphics weren’t revolutionary, the enemy design and open-world inspired gamers and game makers alike. As you might guess, since the 15th game in the series just released a few years ago, it was a huge success. And it all started with the humble NES RPG in the late 80’s.

    Donkey Kong Country

Rare’s masterpiece of platforming action redefined just how good a 2D game could look. Using a revolutionary style of converting 3D models into 2D sprites, Rare wowed gamers in 1994 with Donkey Kong Country. It helped that the game felt great to play, too! With controls tight and polished enough to rival Mario, DKC served as the start to a great series of platformers.

And you can’t talk about DKC without talking about its soundtrack. Ambient, beautiful music scored by legendary David Wise graces the game’s levels. Atmospheric, memorable and occasionally, haunting, the songs are almost too good to accompany a goofy game about jumping apes. That said, this game remains one of the greatest of all time, and it was a huge success for Nintendo in the early 90’s.

    Super Metroid

No discussion of games released before 1996 would be complete without Super Metroid making the list. As one of the most influential adventure games of all time, Super Metroid redefined what you can do in an adventure game. Featuring unrivaled visual storytelling and an oppressive atmosphere, Super Metroid really puts you in Samus’ shoes. The boss fights are intense and challenging, the enemies are merciless and well-animated, and the power-ups feel earned and powerful. The feeling of growing into an unstoppable pirate-killing badass pervades every aspect of the game.

The only thing one could say to detract from Super Metroid, if they wanted to do such a thing, is criticize how long it took for Nintendo to follow it up. And follow it up they did, but that’s a story for another article! Improving upon everything delivered in the first Metroid, Super Metroid is one of the finest games of all time.

The Greatest Game Released Before 1996: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

It’s a stormy night, and you awake from a nightmare. The princess said she was in danger, and it seemed so real. Your uncle is visibly upset, getting ready to head out into the storm. He tells you to stay in, as it’s dangerous out tonight. He opens the door, and rainwater is blown in by the storm, covering the floorboards. He ventures out into the night, and you grab your lantern; you can’t let him go to the castle alone!

That’s how the finest video game of all time opens. What follows is one of the most inspired, exciting and purely fun adventures ever made. Brilliant puzzles, excellent dungeons and gorgeous sprites flesh out the sprawling fantasy world, always drawing the player in. The story isn’t Game of Thrones, but it’s still affecting and epic in scope. While the villains’ motives are rarely more than “acquire power, torture people,” they offer a great foil to the player’s quest for justice. If you’ve never played this masterpiece, you need to. If you have, you certainly remember it as the game that made you a lifelong fan of Zelda and Nintendo.

The cool part, you don’t need a membership to take advantage of the service, unlike some delivery services.

Peapod has the distinction of being the only delivery service on this list founded in the 80’s! Founded back in 1989, the service is now a full-scale delivery app. It has robust filtering features, allowing you to shop easily from the app. You won’t have any trouble finding exactly what you’re looking for! Also useful are the meal kits that let you order all the ingredients for a specific meal. They don’t offer same-day delivery, but they have partnerships with many local farms and fisheries to ensure the freshest food is delivered. Their focus on freshness extends beyond just their name! The best part is, this service puts its money where its mouth is. For every subscription, the app offers a subscription to a low-income family. That’s pretty noble and earns them some deserved goodwill. If you eat paleo, gluten-free, or other such health diets, this is a great delivery app for you to look into. Your first 30 days with the service are free, so you can test the waters before you buy!

    Brandless

Brandless has a pretty interesting gimmick: everything on the service is $3. For $36 a year, you have access to the unique pricing and packaging of the Brandless brand. Every product is non-GMO, if that’s your jam. Even better, when you sign up, ten meals are donated to the hungry. Each time you shop after that, two more meals are donated. Hard to say no to a win-win, isn’t it?

Best Overall Grocery Delivery App: Amazon Fresh

Our favorite grocery delivery app is Amazon Fresh. You can sign up for a 30-day trial and try it out, but if you already have Amazon Prime, you’re set. Just hop on and shop from Amazon’s huge selection of groceries available for delivery. You can even get groceries from Whole Foods, since Amazon acquired them. Between the selection, the service and the price, this is your best bet. If you already use Amazon for your other delivery needs, it only makes sense to use them to have your groceries delivered.

  • Moto G6 Feature Roundup: Surprisingly High-End for Low Price

Moto G6 Feature Roundup: Surprisingly High-End for Low Price

Normally, if you want a high-end phone, you have to pay high-end money. In the case of the new Moto G6, though, that’s not quite the case. Motorola’s been making handsets for years now, but this may be their best balancing act yet. In nearly every respect, this is a step up from the G5 of last year. For the price, you’re not going to find a better smartphone value.

    Upgrades This Year

If you’ve used a Moto G5, you know that it’s a great budget phone. However, this phone is an upgrade in nearly every way. This year’s model comes with a USB-C port instead of micro-USB, for one. For another, it sports two cameras, allowing for portrait mode photos (which are totally in right now, just check Instagram). The design has been modernized, too, with an ultra-long 18×9 display and curved edges. Not to mention, that smooth, enviable Gorilla Glass back. If those design notes sound familiar, it’s because they echo the excellent (if pricey) iPhone X.

    The Downsides

The drawbacks to this phone aren’t numerous and are mostly forgiven for the low price point. For one, it has a relatively small battery when compared to the G5. That alone isn’t a deal-breaker, but it’s a slight bummer. It does support Turbo Charging through its USB-C port, though! The only other drawback is the somewhat lackluster camera. But, at the low price, it’s hard to fault this phone much for those gripes.

    Moto G6: Bottom Line

The final word on this phone? For $250, you’re not going to find a more premium-feeling phone. If you like the Android operating system and want a great deal on a modern phone, you should check out the Moto G6. If you’re in the market for something that is a bit more premium, of course, the Samsung Galaxy family of phones is probably more your speed. However, if you’re not looking to spend a fortune on a smartphone but don’t want to look like you didn’t, this is the phone for you.

  • 2019 Silverado Arrives with Lower Price

2019 Silverado Arrives with Lower Price

Chevy’s 2019 Silverado surprised the industry by announcing that the price will be $700 lower than last year’s model. The new truck is set to be the largest volume vehicle in the range, which is fantastic for the lower price.

Not to mention, the vehicle will be more fuel efficient than last year’s model, which makes it a win-win!

2019 Silverado: Premium, But Priced for Everyone

People are excited that a truck with as much room and luxury as the Silverado is seeing a price reduction. Standard features on the truck are even more exciting for that price. These include active aero shutters, eight-speed automatic transmission and start-stop technology. The coolest new feature is under the hood, though: the 2.7 liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Nothing screams “great deal” like a lower price and new standard features, right?

    Spacious Interior, Great Towing

If you’re a truck lover, you probably love the roomy interior. Thankfully, the 2019 Silverado will deliver on that front. According the Vice President of Chevrolet, Brian Sweeney, you have nothing to fear on that front.  Compared to every other vehicle in the range, he says “it offers more interior and cargo room, higher towing and payload capabilities.”

If you own a truck, you have it to do work. Whether that’s towing, carrying cargo or carrying people, you’ll love the spacious truck. If you’re serious about your work, you want the most power and the most room for the best price. If there’s anything to be said at this stage, it’s that this new offering from Chevy delivers. How often is a brand-new vehicle less expensive than its predecessor and even better? Well, there’s a first time for everything!

    Pricing and Release Date

The starting price for the 2019 Silverado is $29,795. Release is slated for Fall of this year. It looks like this year’s modeled in positioned in the sweet spot between luxury and high price. It might be time to think about getting a new truck!

Video Game Roundup: July Video Games Worth Playing!

E3 has come and gone, and while the heavy hitters won’t be dropping until the holiday season, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to play. The dog days of summer are in for some awesome new game releases! You’re certainly eager to get gaming, so let’s talk July video games worth playing! Whether you’re playing on console or PC, there’s plenty of great games coming this month!

    Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 + 2

For $40, you can pick up the entire Mega Man X series. Fan favorites for years, the X games sport sleek, responsive side-scrolling, robot-busting action. While you can buy either 1 or 2 for $20, each one comprised of 4 titles in the X series, we recommend getting the whole bundle. The game series that redefined Mega Man sees a re-release on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch on July 24th.

    Shining Resonance Refrain

An odd name for an interesting game, Shining Resonance Refrain releases on July 10th. This Japanese RPG follows the adventures of protagonist Yuma, a hero in a Norse-style fantasy setting. If you’re a fan of the Tales series of RPGs, this game will likely scratch the itch. Featuring a huge supporting cast and turn-based combat, the game is a bit of a throwback. The unique visual style and setting help set it apart from the field, though, so it won’t feel like a strict rehash of older concepts. The game will be released on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC on July 10th. The game will retail for $50, ten dollars less than most big releases.

    Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

If you missed this adorable spin-off on Wii U, here’s your chance to play it again! Toad is a cute protagonist and has the interesting drawback of being unable to jump. The reimagining of Mario’s world when playing as a character that can’t leap over obstacles is an interesting one. Manipulating the environment and helping Toad find treasure is as endearing now as it was four years ago. Whether you have a 3DS or a Switch, the game will be released on both on July 13th. The port will retail for $40, which seems fair for a game originally released in 2014.

    Octopath Traveler

The highly-anticipated Switch-only project from Sqaure Enix arrives this month. Following in the style of the excellent Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler offers eight distinct protagonists and quests. The game’s art style is distinctive and endearing, marrying SNES-style sprites with breathtaking backgrounds. The combat is turn-based, the story is epic, and the feeling is excellent. If you’re itching to relive some of the classic RPGs of yesteryear, look no further. On July 13th, this game launches exclusively on Switch for a full MSRP of $60. Don’t miss this gem in the rush of July video games!
