    Smartphone Spotlight: Galaxy Note 9

The 128GB Galaxy Note 9 can be purchased through carriers including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Verizon Wireless and Xfinity, along with Best Buy, Costco, Sam’s Club, Straight Talk Wireless, Target, Walmart, Samsung.com and the ShopSamsung app.

    The Great

    • Slamtastic Screen
    • Instalike worthy camera
    • Adequate long battery
    • Interesting new S-Pen tricks
    • All the Specs needed

    The Conclusion

The Galaxy Note 9 is Samsung’s Ultimate cry for tech geek attention. It has all the specs, a gigantic, magnificent, Fortnite worthy screen, a Bluetooth-powered S Pen, and a headphone jack… you know just all the essentials on the checklist for the kind of Android user that Samsung is targeting with a Note update. It’s a Phablets lover’s dream come true!

I’m sure we all remember the note 7 scandle, but that is all history for the Galaxy Note brand. That was two years ago, this is the Note 9 we are talking about today.

Galaxy Note 9 puts powerful technology in the hands of the tech geeks and gamers who demand more powerful and more screen from their smartphones. It certainly boast Innovative features and design make it the only phone to keep up with the next generation of users. Yes the rumors we have been telling you are true. Packed with a huge battery, a massive screen, and a powerful stylus, the Note 9 has more of everything than any other phone on the US market.

How does it look and feel

It’s large, I mean this phone is obscenely large. And when you put it in a case, it will become a liability. This is not a one-handed phone for any but the largest hands. Samsung moved the fingerprint sensor so no longer will the Note 9 fit into Note 8 case. On the bright side no more inadvertently smudging the camera lens.

The Galaxy Note 9 has a 6.4-inch quad HD Super AMOLED curved screen, and USB-C and standard headphone jacks, it is IP68 Waterproof. We have been through this, the checklist of required wants and needs are covered. Not only that but it is stunning, think Charlene Theron on the red carpet elegant.

No 5g on The Galaxy Note 9

We have talked about 5G coming next year, Don’t get hung up on that; it will be another year before 5G is widespread and before chipset makers work out the power-management kinks that come with new wireless data systems. Yes write that down you are hearing it here first. Next year’s Note 10 will be 5G. Wanna wait that long? Anyways, The existing X20 modem get speeds up to 700Mbps with the right carrier setup, showing there’s still plenty of room in 4G. That’ll do, That’ll do just fine.

    Sounds and Stuff

The Note 9 brings the S9+’s dual speakers to the Note line. The two speakers are by the earpiece, and along the bottom. Compared to the previous Note 8’s single bottom speaker, the speakers here aren’t much louder but clarity and treble are off the charts. Outside of the iPhone X I don’t think I have heard a better device speaker.

    The Biggest Difference

The Galaxy Note 9’s biggest upgrade is its enhanced and gargantuan 4,000mAh battery hit it with a 10-hour battery test video. Yes you know the one where I leave it on the10 hour loop of He-Man singing 4 non blondes “what’s going on”. Results, 13% left, astounding. This leads me into projecting screen-on battery life out to 12 and half hours. That Destroys all other flagship smartphone on the market. The battery is significantly larger than the one in the Galaxy S9+ (3,500mAh, 10+ hours), the Galaxy Note 8 (3,300mAh, 6 hours), or the Galaxy Note 5 (3,020mAh, 8 hours and 30 minutes).

    Quick Speck Look

    • Graphics Mali-G72 MP18
    • Processor Octa core (2.7 GHz, Quad core, M3 Mongoose + 1.7 GHz, Quad core, Cortex A55)
    • Architecture 64 bit
    • Ram 6 GB
    • Audio Features Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus
    • Display Type Super AMOLED
    • Aspect Ratio 18.5:9
    • Screen Size 6.4 inches (16.26 cm)
    • Screen Resolution 1440 x 2960 pixel

    The Final Thought

The screen alone will improve your Fortnite results instantly giving you an unfair advantage over any other player on a regular smartphone.

  • Asus ZenBook S UX391UA Review Roundup

Asus ZenBook S UX391UA Review Roundup

Asus’ newest ZenBook, the Zenbook S UX391UA (say that three times fast) is here. Is the new super-compact device worth the hefty price tag, or is it better left for the bargain bin? Today we’re going to round up the best features of the new ZenBook and let you know what we think. After all, competition in the laptop market is fierce at the moment, and you shouldn’t waste your time or money on a sub-par product! Let’s talk about the newest release from Asus.

    Design

The Zenbook S UX391UA is compact. As in, incredibly compact. If you’re the type of person who often works in coffee shops or is on the move a lot, this is a plus. The main design feature here is the ErgoLift hinge. In English, that’s the hinge that lifts the bottom part of the laptop when it’s unfolded. The lift makes it easier to type on the small keyboard and also helps ventilate the laptop. Overall, the design could be described as understated, subtle and soft. That said, it is also quite stylish.

    Specs

The Zenbook S UX391UA comes standard with a 4K display and a touchscreen. It also sports a 512GB SSD for storing data, and an i7 processor. All said, it’s a pretty hefty machine! That’s not even mentioning the 16GB of memory the ZenBook sports. It’s not going to be the strongest computer for gaming, for what it’s worth. It sports a 128MB (shared) Intel UHD Graphics 620, which will allow it to play basic games at best. However, most in the market for gaming laptops wouldn’t consider an ulta-compact option like this to begin with.

    Price

This is the biggest sticking point. Despite the i7 processor, 4K display and great design, the Zenbook S UX391UA feels too expensive at $1500. Oddly, the ZenBook doesn’t feel like it brings enough compared to the competition. In fact, there are even computers in Asus’ own range that outpace the Zenbook S UX391UA for the price!

    Zenbook S UX391UA Bottom Line

The bottom line on this ultra-compact computer: pass unless you really like the design. Generally speaking, ultra-compacts just shouldn’t cost so much. Perhaps in a year or so the price will drop and make this a worthy pickup. Until then, however, stick to the less pricy competition and get a similar (if not better) computer for your money. Better luck next time, ZenBook!

  • Iron Fist Season 2 is Here: Does it Redeem Danny Rand?

Iron Fist Season 2 is Here: Does it Redeem Danny Rand?

Iron Fist’s first season was rocky, to say the least. Uneven pacing and strange narrative choices melded with poorly-choreographed fights to make a mess of a season. Glimmers of hope, such as Finn Jones’ occasionally likable but often whiny Danny Rand, got buried under half-hearted fights and boring board room meetings. Iron Fist Season 2, however, seems poised to change that. After we saw the trailer, we were cautiously optimistic. Now that the season is here, we’re happy to inform you: it’s awesome.

    ironfistseason2
    Netflix

    The Immortal Iron Fist

Iron Fist is a tricky character to get right. For one thing, there’s the issue of casting. Many Marvel fans were adamant that a martial arts-focused, Asian-esque character should be portrayed by an Asian actor. The casting of Finn Jones was disappointing to these fans, and the first season’s lackluster narrative hardly helped matters. Danny often came off as preachy at best and an embodiment of the “white savior” trope at worst.

Thankfully, the often tone-deaf story has given way to a more thoughtful, respectful and likable Danny. In Defenders, we saw a somewhat more responsible, less hot-headed version of the character. By the time he cameo’d in Luke Cage Season 2 he much more closely resembled his comic book counterpart. Now, back in the spotlight of his own show, Danny is at peace with himself and ready to be the Defender of New York.

    Old Faces, New Enemies

Davos, known in the comics as the Steel Serpent, makes his return this season. He feels as though Danny’s power, that of the Iron Fist, is his birthright, and Danny stole it from him. This story arc largely tracks from criticism of Danny as a “white savior,” both from within the narrative and from our own world. Davos is joined by Joy Meachum, daughter of Harold Meachum and a supporting character from the first season. The two seek to bring Danny low and take the Iron Fist from him so that Davos may wield it.

New this season is Mary Walker, known in the comics as villain Typhoid Mary. This unnerving villain has multiple personalities at war within her mind, and an unhealthy fixation on Danny Rand. She joins the main cast and brings an air of uneasy tension to the otherwise slam-bang martial arts proceedings.

Is Iron Fist Season 2 the Redemption we Hoped For?

In a word, Iron Fist Season 2 is excellent. The main cast is on point, with every dramatic beat and character moment feeling heartfelt and meaningful. Martial arts scenes are fast and intense, but readable and well-choreographed. Danny is a likable character you can root for, and the central conflict is truly gripping. While the show is far from perfect, it’s a much better representation of the character we love from the comics. We’d highly recommend this season to any fans of Marvel or martial arts!

  • Tablet Talk: Amazon’s Fire HD 8 tablet

Tablet Talk: Amazon’s Fire HD 8 tablet

AMAZON has another new tablet to add to its expansive range with the launch of  Amazon’s Fire HD 8 tablet and this device includes a new feature that should make it a whole lot more useful. Here’s full details about the Amazon’s Fire HD 8 tablet including price, release and specs.

    The Great

    • Up to 10 hours of battery life, A
    • Vibrant 8″ HD display
    • 1.3 GHz quad-core processor
    • 1.5 GB of RAM
    • Dolby Audio
    • 2x as durable as the iPad Mini 4.
    • Alexa Voice enabled

    The Not

    • Basic
    • Entry level tablet
    • The battery life drops from last year’s 12 hours to 10 hours

    The Conclusion

From a quick glance, there’s not much to differentiate this latest tablet from its predecessors but the HD 8 has a very neat trick up its sleeve with something called ‘Show Mode’.

We have an update here.  Amazon has offered truly hands-free Alexa on the Fire HD 10 tablet, but never on its 8-inch model. Which means you have had to wake it up firs. Not an issue but mildly annoying. Those days are a thing of the past with an updated Fire HD 8. The new model blasts its always-on Alexa feature. a Feature that lets you voice directions even when the device is asleep. Yes this in fact is almost like turning it into an impromptu Echo speaker. This does in fact reduce your battery life, but you can turn off the always-available feature if that extra running time is valuable.

Perhaps one of the greatest other features of the new HD 8 is its price which starts at just $79.99. This rises to $109.88 for those that want the Show Mode Charging Dock bundled with the device. The all-new Amazon’s Fire HD 8 tablet comes in four colour options: Black, Marine Blue, Punch Red, and Canary Yellow, and is available for pre-order beginning today with it shipping on October 4.

    Introducing Show Mode

Show Mode is a new, immersive hands-free Alexa experience for your Fire HD 8 that provides full-screen landscape visuals that complement voice responses from Alexa. Show Mode lets you ask Alexa to see trending news, make calls, check the weather, view camera feeds, and more—all glanceable whether you’re up close or across the room. Show Mode is available with free software update.

    The Final Thought

That’s all there really is to this update to the Amazon’s Fire HD 8 tablet. Just some Alexa support and functionality and this Show mode that  basically transforms the tablet into a smart home device with the screen instantly being switched to show useful data such as local weather, news and your upcoming events. Still no Paul Bettany voiced alarm clock reading me the news, weather, traffic and a run down of my schedule. I mean would that be so hard Amazon?

  • 5 Things We Found Out About the Galaxy S9

5 Things We Found Out About the Galaxy S9

Think you know everything about the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9+?  We have been posting, researching, speculating on the next big thing in the android world for a year now. Finally it has be unveiled, and we were mostly correct but here are 5 unsuspected things we were surprised to learn about the S9

1.The bezels are thinner then the S8, but the phone is more durable

The top bezel lands at 8.21mm with a 0.39mm reduction, while the bottom bezel measures in at 6.99mm. Impressively, that’s a reduction of 1.01mm. In both cases, the reduction in bezels actually brings the size of the device down by 1.2mm and 1.4mm on the S9 and S9+ respectively. Samsung has made the S9 more durable compared to its predecessor. In short, this comes as the result of using a different type of aluminum.

    2. The camera is quieter and does much better in low light

I was blown away by how well the S9+ performed in dim conditions, because the variable aperture on the Galaxy S9 and S9+ goes as wide as f/1.5. Samsung says that its new flagships let in 28 percent more light. With the support of a  wider aperture, f/1.7,  that kicks in when the ambient light is 100 Lux or below.  100 Lux is the light you’ll see on overcast day or in most office settings.  At the same time, Samsung added dedicated memory to its camera in order to reduce noise.

    3. Dedicated Fingerprint

This is a new feature for this year’s flagship phones and is for the Secure Folder element. This folder is a compartment for files and apps that you want to keep separate from the rest of the phone. It uses your Samsung account and you can access it using the same security protocol, fingerprint, passcode, iris recognition etc as you do to unlock your phone. Once you’ve moved files to the Secure Folder, nobody can see them without your passcode, fingerprint or whatever.

    4. We Get to Keep the Headphone Jack

The S9 and S9 Plus have retained their headphone jacks, unlike other phones in the class, including the iPhone X, 8, and 8 Plus, Pixel 2 XL, or the Huawei Mate 10 Pro. That’s a blessing for audiophiles who just aren’t satisfied with the current state of wireless audio and for people who even have a designated pouch for their dongles but still lose them. Admit it dongles are tiny and easy to misplace.

    5. That Sound Really Bumps

Dual stereo speakers to the device for the first time . The S9 finally  have Dolby’s surround-sound Atmos technology built-in.  Samsung created a device that offers premium sound experiences with stereo speakers tuned by AKG. Whether users are watching their favorite movie or streaming their favorite artist’s latest album, sounds are clear, crisp and rich in quality.

Spider-Man PS4: An Excellent Return to Form for Superhero Video Games

Since it was announced that legendary developer Insomniac Studios was working on a Spider-Man game for PS4, expectations have been high. Will it live up to the lofty heights of games like Spider-Man 2? Can they capture what makes Spider-Man the world’s greatest superhero? And, most of all, will Insomniac live up to their own stellar pedigree? Well, Spider-Man PS4 is here and we have good news for you: it rocks. Let’s sling some webs!

    spidermanps4

What Wicked(ly Awesome) Webs we Weave

Swinging from a building, seeing the skyline bob in the distance and then plummeting to the street below is a blast. Pummeling muggers and supervillains alike is smooth and natural. Insomniac has put in some serious work making everything in this game feel as easy and fun as a superhero game should. There is a fast-travel system in this game, but will you really want to use it? Slinging from buildings and flipping in mid-air is so fun and engrossing that it’s just a blast. You’ll find yourself just relaxing and taking in the game’s world as you fly around Manhattan.

The combat will look familiar to anyone who has played Rocksteady’s Batman games. In places, it’s comfortingly familiar. In others, it’s painfully obvious that this is a take-off on that game. At least, in this game, the dodge-and-counter mechanic is explained by Spider-Sense. And the protagonist’s capacity to take down twenty guys is explained by his super-powers. Batman really has no business winning in a fight that lop-sided…

Familiar Faces, and Some Uncanny Ones

Insomniac’s generally done a pretty good job with the facial animation in this one. In some scenarios it dips briefly into uncanny valley, but it rarely stays there too long. The somewhat-cartoony features help this, as the game looks ever-so-slightly like a comic book. It has largely the same stylized, sleek feeling of the big-budget MCU films it borrows its atmosphere from.

The story is, sadly, less than inspired. In trying to make a more generalized Spidey tale, Insomniac has leaned on some tried-and-true Web-Slinger tales. This can be less than exciting for longtime fans, even if it leans heavily into safe, foolproof storytelling.

    Bottom Line

This game is excellent, if familiar in many places. The story doesn’t break any new ground for a character who’s been around for over 50 years. But then again, did it need to? The bones of Peter’s tale of responsibility and great power are rock-solid, and the voice actors all put in great work. The gameplay is fun and flowing, even if it feels like a few other games welded together. Spider-Man 2’s web-slinging mechanics are married beautifully to Rocksteady’s combat. If you’re a Spider-Fan, you’re going to love this game. If you don’t like superheroes, Insomniac’s latest outing isn’t changing your mind.

  • 3D Printed Houses. The Affordable Home of Tomorrow.

3D Printed Houses. The Affordable Home of Tomorrow.

    3D Printed Homes?

On March 16, 2018 the Austin, TX Construction company ICON completed the first 3D printed home in the United States. The home has been deemed livable and passed all Austin city code compliances. ICON has unveiled the equipment and technology to build a 3D printed house in less than 24 hours for the average price of $4,000.00. The companies plan is to take the equipment to El Salvador to build a massive village full of affordable homes to help improve the countries living conditions. Icon has stated that in later development stages, the equipment will be able to complete a home in just under 12 hours. Based on everything we are seeing, this appears to be a game changer in affordable housing.

Image result for 3d printed house

Image result for 3d printed house

    How it Works

Along with ICON, there are several other companies on the verge of mass printing homes. A large company in The Netherlands based in Eindhoven, is set to have the world’s first habitable community made from 3D printed Homes. The process is rather simple. A 3D printer is set up in the center of what will be the home and is filled concrete and other certified building materials. The foundation and walls of the home can then be made to fit any type of structure that is designed by the architect and programmed into the printers. Along with providing affordable homes, this process will also offset the Dutch cities extreme shortage of brick masons. The printed homes have apparently been exposed to rigorous testings for quite some time before getting the government approval to move forward for mass production.

    Summary

It appears that these companies are making great headway with getting these homes ready for mass production. If so, in twenty or so years, homeless epidemics abroad and at home could be a thing of the past. It’ll be interesting to see how these homes hold up over time and see just how cheap we can build them. These things right here are why we must always push the technological envelope and ask “Why” instead of “Why Not”.
